Pune Warriors sounds like a porn flick imo.
Rogers is the only one who plays like a test match and he's been over here the time.

that nobody was entirely clear what he was for.
Of course the '**** all-rounder' thing was begun by Derek 'The Thinking Man's Ian Botham' Pringle - the mere mention of whose name is guaranteed to make me furious.

Geraint Jones is probably your best claim to fame of late. And he wasn't all that.
I think it's karma for inflicting Chris Tavare on an unsuspecting world.

Missed Tavare unfortunately (well not really) I'm sure I saw a program which said he actually scored at a decent rate in ODIs, was that inaccurate? :hehe:

England lost both Gooch and Boycott to the Rebel tour to S. Africa (what was Gooch thinking, ffs?) and then proceeded to stop playing any shots at all.
I remember seeing him get 50 n.o. having batted all day once. :-(

How did we not have anyone better, for Christ's sake?
Batted through and was something like 54 n.o at the end, probably knew it was enough against Kent (think it was as well).

I'm not sure he'd get in many test teams these days - albeit he's a hell of a lot better than Lyth.

when he was on your team, anyway.
Pity you automatically associate him with slipping on 99 and rubbing dirt on the ball.

once all hope had been lost. He'd underperformed (!) and Athers seemed to want to make an example of him.

He gets great credit for the stand with Russell against S. Africa. Less so for being McGrath's rabbit and being inexplicably unable to play Chaminda Vaas.
That was when I was young and hadn't yet realised that none of our good players were English.

What? Unlike all our other batsmen who were dealing with him easily, you mean?
Very shabbily treated, was Smith.
I often think the great, unsung hero of the pre-2005 era was Graham Thorpe. A consistently excellent, dogged batsman in what were usually pretty **** teams. Never receives the credit he deserves imo.
The whole knock against South Africa really, quite a few people struggled with Vaas , the left arm thing seemed to make him really difficult to play.
