View Full Version : I saw an episode of Time Team yesterday. It was OK, but it reminded me of the pure joy that was the

first couple of series.

It was all just so charmingly low-key and amateur. Our soon-to-be famous team of Baldrick, Phil and Mick would pitch up at some random farmer's field, usually on a Monday morning in the pissing rain, chuck a bit of earth around, find f**k all, and retire to the boozer.

It was so pleasingly cosy; I suppose one day they actually found a bit of rusty metal and this prompted them to get all professional about it. By the time they were drafting in teams of archaeolgy students to wield shovels and regiments of JCBs to clear football-pitch sized trenches, the charm was all gone :-(

I am concerned at your somewhat judgemental attitude to sex criminals, to be honest. You consistently use the term with a pejorative implication.

rushed? So trying to do it all in three days is inherently wrong, even if it makes good tv. Time Team was basically the 20-over version of archaeology.

that is Mick Aston.

Do you know that Mick is the only man to have been awarded his PhD without presenting his paper? He left it in a cab, but they Doctoired him up anyway.

Such is the genius of Mick.

Is he the rubicund one in the hat with the bugger's grips?

His talent lies in wielding a shovel and shouting 'Oo-arrrr' when someone suggests f**king off to the juicer.

This is Mick. I have been his greatest fan for some 20 years now.

Wait... bugger me, I've just found out the bugger's gone and died! :-(

Presumably, by way of tribute, they should do an episode where they dig the f**ker up?

Aston was known for his "unfailing commitment and integrity", with his life being dominated by "old-fashioned idealism and loyalty".[28] He was a vegetarian and a naturist,[2][11] as well as an anarchist and an atheist.[37][38] Describing himself as "a keen European",[39] a friend of his noted that he "railed against right wing politics, reserving special venom for Margaret Thatcher, and fought against all manner of authority, including university paperwork, and most especially if it came in a uniform."[15]

Even a half of HTFU might have done him some good.

Surely you could have worked most of that our from his hair, though?

Imagine finding out that Dennis Bergkamp is a Nazi. That's how I feel.

A couple of months ago you were mad for it, now you're condemning chaps left, right and centre for indulging.

It's a normal human function, b.
