View Full Version : I’ve also been reading a lot recently about Artificial Intelligence and frankly I don't buy it

Every few weeks I’ll see a link to a video claiming to show some great new milestone in the quest to create robotic superintelligence and inevitably it will be some bantering ****housery like a mechanised dog jumping over a bunch of obstacles.

I drove a Renault Clio in about 2005 that basically parked itself. Why am I supposed to suddenly be impressed by a jumping robotic dog?

Also, aren't computers already way, way more intelligent than humans in terms of their capacity for data storage and I don't see any sign of the singularity happening any time soon.

my questions that I understood) that the furthest we'd got to true AI at the moment was to the level of a cockroach, so it's safe to say Arnie's not going to be kicking our arses anytime soon.

IT geeks must be the greatest frauds in the history of the universe. First they got themselves out of their bedrooms, then they made their beards and halitosis fashionable, and now they earn all the big bucks and possess all the power, with which they achieve, erm, websites with videos embedded in them. Just what humanity needs.

Weirdy beardy ****ers to a man.

safety net in case the whole climate change business stops being a tidy earner.

Not one of the c**ts is able to convincingly explain why I should be scared of a machine that lacks human consciousness (which they pretty much admit is impossible to replicate in a computer)

Obviously, this research is massively funded by the US DoD. :hehe:

humanity for the fact that they got picked on at school and didn't get laid. So what they fantasise about doing is creating machines that will destroy all humans.

Some of the swarm robotics stuff is quite cool, though.

I generally moan at him about just this, though.
