View Full Version : I am finding this Tour de France business with Froome confusing.

The public hate him because they think he's doping, yes? But I thought we'd established that everyone who's even likely to win in the TdF has to be doped up to the gills? So why are they getting upset and throwing piss at him (we've all wanted to do that to cyclists, tbf, but even so) when he's presumably just cheating better than the other guys? Or are the froggies still kidding themselves that there are clean cyclists out there?

Or is it just a bit of Anglophobia?

NB: Please do not get technical about cycling - I don't care about it. It's mostly the piss-throwing that caught my eye.

There's history there, too much to go into here, but safe to say I laid a lot of the groundwork with the UCI in my last job.

I f**king hate the TDF though, cool Kraftwerk theme tune aside. It was a massive inconvenience for me last year as I was essentially stranded in the middle of it and I didnt bother to watch a moment of it live or on telly.

Mind you, Yorkshiremen are too mean to just give away their own piss like that.

But then again, cynical 'Neg does wonder how they can then hand out such a thrashing to riders and teams who are almost certainly doped.

And is the major complaint against Sky and Froome essentially that they are - no pun intended - taking the piss?

Imagine the advancement in medical science funded by sponsors etc? Hundreds of millions pumped into pharmaceuticals.

Also imagine the theatre of it all as the 100 meters is covered in 7 seconds before the winner's head explodes.

A cyclists so pumped up doing 125 mph shoots off the bend in the mountain and lands 4 curves down, then continues.
