A fine young driver and by all accounts a damned good bloke.

Cue the lets-bash-other=sports=brigade sneering that F1 is only interesting when people get killed. :-/

However, if he's not conscious then I suspect that he'd be unaware of any perceived benefits of smoking.

Not that I know anything, of course, but I doubt he'll ever make any sort of real recovery. There was a story before Jules died that he had told his father before his accident that if he ever suffered a Schumacher type coma he would want the machine to be switched off rather than living on as a vegetable.

completely unaware that time has passed.

The truth is, that nobody really knows. People claim to have had vivid dreams - but it's often hypothesised that these come in the 'waking' phase when a brain re-gains consciousness.

There can be instances where patients can react in simple ways to various stimuli - for example, a twitch of the eyes when a loud noise/familiar voice is heard.

So to answer your questions - yes, there's a possibility (albeit small). Also, the length of his coma would suggest to me that brain function is virtually non-existent. But without more detailed information on his condition, I am simply guessing.

had with the patient pre-accident.

In Schumacher's case, I assume they did have such a conversation given his profession.

Waste of space them being in the Championship at the moment. And a waste of Alonso's talent.

in the BAR/Honda days, and now this. Ok, so it was Honda that built the Brawn car, but I think that was down to one aero guy who came up with the double diffuser. Apart from that they haven't been at the front since the 86-91 days.

Kimi: “He is my boss.”

“I’d rather be probably out of second and third place so I don’t have to go to the prize-giving.”

Interviewer: “Is it true that sometimes you’re bored in the car?”
Kimi: “Only when I am in front by a country mile, like in Melbourne last year. Then you are thinking about other things or you’re playing with the buttons on the steering wheel.”

9. ”I’m not interested in what people think about me. I’m not Michael Schumacher.”

27. “My life would be much more easier had I been a f1-driver in the 70’s with the guys. I was definitely born in the wrong era.”

30. ”If there’s a red light when you leave the pitlane you have to stop. Then some wooden eye [ Lewis Hamilton] crashes into you and breaks the car.”

31. Talking about Michael Schumacher:
Kimi: “He doesn’t come and tell us drivers anything. And at least I don’t need his advice.”

32. Interviewer: “How does it feels to drive at 300 km/h?”
Kimi: “It feels normal.”

33. ”I have not looked at what everyone else is doing and what teams are running, so we are just doing our own thing.”
