Making the 'point' that FIFA is corrupt is surely among the most redundant satirical statements on earth at the moment? Right up there with pointing out the dead nazi **** Hitler was a bit racist?

So does this Nelson fellow have some sort of mental illness that compels him to make this sort of unfunny and embarrassing spectacle of himself?

If he could have exploited a loophole in order to have distanced himself further and kept his position, he would have lept at the chance.

Berni

It's just boring.

Sir Charlie of Nicholas

What is racism but rudeness?

What if theft, if not rudeness?

Murder? Rudeness.

Berni
07-20-2015, 02:33 PM
But surely you accept that there are people to whom it behoves one to be rude? Leftists, Tottenham fans, Asian families at weddings - those sort of people?

Sir Charlie of Nicholas
07-20-2015, 02:38 PM
They are as beasts of the field; that is to say, as thick as pig****.

I have decided to drink to excess as early as possible; thus, by the tiome the speeches are over and socialating commences, I shall be too much of a dribbling wreck to engage anyone in well-meaning conversation on the subject of racial harmony.

This one was better than his Kanye moment, which was basically Jarvis Cocker without the amusing arse based moves.

Why are you so rude, j?

Berni

When are the nuptials? Will the groom ride in on a pony or an elephant or whatnot? Because I would like to see that. :hehe:

Sir Charlie of Nicholas

As you can imagine, I know nothing of the detail whatsoever.

I expect it will be a terrific bash.

there? It's just 'small children and their mother are encouraged to make a comical Nazi salute for the camera eighty-odd years ago'. Big f**king deal imo. What on earth are we supposed to be making of it?

Sir Charlie of Nicholas
07-20-2015, 02:51 PM
Royal family. I just wonder what pleasure you take from being so rude. Are you possessed by demons, or something?

Surely you'd have to be an actual mental defective not to realise how utterly f**king idiotic you'd sound trying to make any sort of political point based on such a thing?

Sir Charlie of Nicholas
07-20-2015, 02:57 PM
Furthermore, why would you make such statements to me, knowing that I might find them mildly offensive?

There is a badness inside you making you wish to hurt people, j.

Do you ever torture small animals? With lighters, or pliers, that sort of thing?

Can't we all be nice? I want everyone to be nice to everyone. :-(

Sir Charlie of Nicholas

and Buckingham Palace was a front for Her Majesty's Zyklon B production facility, which is how she got rich, yes, selling Zyklon B to the Jewish-Amerikan banking conspirass, no, wait, that was Thatcher :shout:

Berni

Do you apply the same strictures to all the left-wing 'intellectuals' who spent the 1930s, 40s and 50s supporting Stalin, j? Only I'd say that they had rather less excuse for their behaviour than the Duchess of York had for hers.

Classic Jorge
07-20-2015, 03:20 PM
They'd only banned trades unions, disolved the Reichstag and restricted free speech in 1933 though, so you can see why the royals were such big fans.

Berni
07-20-2015, 03:29 PM
about which they had no f**king idea whatsoever.

You're forgetting, of course, that at that point, Germany had only had democracy for just over a decade and to the British mind, they would see no reason why the Germans should stick to democracy. Thus, the things you describe were not seen as harbingers of anything terrible, merely the Germans going back to doing things the way they had before. To judge them in the light of our hindsight is utterly ludicrous - as is using a tiny, silent vignette of a few people's lives 82 years ago to judge them and score cheap points.

in the way we do now. A world in which autocracies were thought of as just another form of government. A world in which the concept of human rights was dimly understood - if at all. A world in which anti-semitism and other forms or racial prejudice were considered pretty matter-of-factly.

If totalitarian autocrat took over Germany today, we'd all jump out of our skins - why? Because of what happened between 1933-45. But that hadn't happened then, so nobody in this country considered Germany or Hitler a particular threat or something to worry about. Indeed, they saw him as a welcome bulwark against Communism, which was - not unreasonably - considered the real threat to liberal western democracies.

Yes, all the stuff was there in Mein Kampf if you chose to look, but no reasonable person would have bothered reading it and - even if they had - would have taken it with a pinch of salt.

Berni

Assad. Sure, he's a nasty piece of work, but that's his own country's business and at least he's a bulwark against the real enemy (ISIS in our case, communism in theirs).

However, if Assad were to suddenly precipitate a world war, you'd look a bit silly with hindsight, wouldn't you? But it wouldn't really be your fault since you can't predict the future.

You have to remember that this was the same chap who was thought of very fondly as Prince of Wales because he went around Welsh mining villages saying 'Something must be done' about about the poverty, squalor, etc. I think his heart was probably in approximately the right place, but like rather dim, naive people everywhere, he sought simplistic solutions - be they left or right wing. I'm very glad he didn't become King as he'd have been a liability, but I don't think he was a Nazi.

Equally, though, I feel no compunction to defend him.

Rather like international football, I guess. But one really needs to understand the traditions, customs, language etc. of that country in order to get that.

Of course, very few actually do or even care to http://www.awimb.com/images/smiley_icons/ohwell.gif
