View Full Version : So I suppose Lyth will be dropped now. Who do you call up in his place?

I'd bring in Bairstow for him and bump Bell up to open. However, that presents its own issues in that Bell can't buy a run at the moment. That being the case, do you drop him for Taylor as well?

makeup artist and just keep sending Root out in various guises.

Honestly, I think Ballance has to go away and compromise his technique, you bowl full and even if he does get a bat on it he can't generate any power because all his weight is so far back.

On form you'd go Bairstow, consistancy over a period you would say Taylor (although with him and Root we will look like an U11 side, as well as playing like one).
For a wildcard maybe Hales at the top, that opening pair dynamic seems to work well for Australia.

down. Compton, Root, Carberry, Robson, Lyth... ffs they don't face the likes of Starc and Johnson in county cricket - they need some time to adapt - never going to happen if we keep chopping and changing every couple to Tests. Can't believe you suggest Bell as an opener though - back to starting at one wicket down. Not the maddest suggestion I have seen though.Quite a few suggestions that Morgan should come in - straight off the back off a pair against Notts. First class runs this season 61 in 6 innings - 44 of those coming in one know

Bairstow has to come in - no doubt about that but for Bell. Wouldn't change too much else ... yet

I think he's just as good as Trescothick was/is on the attack - just not so sure about his defensive game. Still, it can't be any worse than the Cook/Lyth partnership which struggles to make it to 20.

How is Sam Robson doing these days?

This would probably be my team.

Cook
Taylor (can he open?)
Root/Bell
Bell/Root
Bairstow
Stokes
Buttler
Ali
Broad
Wood
Anderson

Robson is finding a bit of form but apart from one big hundred has struggled. Compton would be the much better option - knows how to score the tough runs but hardly the most attractive opener pair with Cook

but it's something a bit different and you would have said the same about Warner when they first picked him, he has that hand eye co-ordination that Trescothick had.
That said la does have a point about Lyth, he won't have faced anything like this we have to give someone a run.

maybe Bairstow and Taylor for Ballance and Bell?

Rich

going to be 3-1 down at this rate.

and play in before the 3rd Test?

Ben.

although he did actually get some runs for Warwickshire before the first game and still looked lost.
One thing is it may be worth swapping him Root and see if we can get him to come in at a position of something less than catastrophic, Root seems to be much tougher mentally.

I mean long term you have to say he should be there and he did open for Yorkshire so it shouldn't faze him I suppose it's just the thought of f*cking with the only thing that works.
You?

won't want to chuck him in at the deep end now.

Ben.
07-20-2015, 08:26 AM
that's the problem, if he had failed there against a pretty ordinary side on a pitch conducive to spin, we would have at least known.

Luis Anaconda

and as you say it's the thing that works.

Lyth isn't up to it, Bell is hopelessly out of nick, Ballance is appalling and technically unsound, which puts all the pressure on Cook, Root and the late middle order (which has actually performed pretty well apart from Buttler (no idea why he's batting above Moeen, tbh).

Ben.
07-20-2015, 08:29 AM
he's on the payroll anyway

I can only remember Trott opening from those games, just would have enabled us to go into full on dustbowl mode.

wickets/liabilities for this game. We needed them around to give us a chance imo.
