View Full Version : Just back from the Dordogne. Very nice indeed, although my efforts to convince myself

that goose farming for fois gras isn’t as unpleasant as people claim could have gone better.

One of the geese shat itself at the first sight of the big metal pole they shove down its throat and the others basically started trampling over each other to try to escape.

Penn and Teller told me it was fine :-(

Did you not start to find the local, duck-heavy cuisine a bit samey after a while? Also, did the sheer numbers of British and Dutch tourists not start to get on your wick?

Any other animal cruelty activities or was it just geese you were interested in? Seems a missed opportunity when in france, really

Makes you wonder what else was on the itinerary?

They've appeared to gone mental for him.

Even Sinead o'connor was there to sing a song as he walked out.

We were technically in the The Vezere valley, rather than the Dordogne, so escaped the crowds.

It wasn't as bad as some places for Brits and Dutchers, but they were still pretty thick on the ground.

By the end of the holiday, we were going to Italian or Moroccan places just to escape the endless array of Confit de Canard, foie gras, salade de gesiers et al.

He's far from being a 'star' but that is not to say he is totally unknown. All his talk about the country all watching etc is simply hype.

He's a funny act in a 'sport' that 99% of people do not take seriously, talks an immense amount of utter *******s but is quite honest in that he is just in it to make money.

There has been a documentary on about him in recent weeks on RTE, have a wee look on YouTube for The Notorious.

Went to the Font de Gaume cave featuring some of the world's oldest Paleolithic paintings, went to a chateau once owned by Josephine Baker that now houses a museum about her life.

Picture-postcard villages, night markets, a swimming pool to ourselves, entrecote steak on the barbie. Little bit as good as it gets, imo.

and some bloke basically tried to rape my partner (while I was absent) which was sub-optimal, as holiday experiences go.

We stayed in Les Eyzies (about 20km west of Le Bugue), which I happily pronounced "Lezzers" for the entire trip, much to my family's amusement

Yes, it's from It Takes a Nation of Millions...

1988, I believe.

I watched the fight. He did what he said he would do. I've known about him for a while.

They are talking of a potential fight in croke park.

Actually, there seem to be cavemen caves everywhere round there, so that hardly narrows it down.

Sorry to hear about the attempted rape. Still, a miss is as good as a mile.

It would rain and the cage would be tiny in what is an absolutely massive stadium. Wouldn't rule it out all the same. Ed Sheeran can fill Croker for 3 nights so I am sure this lad could.

He is known, don't get me wrong, just do not fall for all this *******s about the entire country watching and coming to a standstill.

In general the Irish get behind any sporting success, and this lad is the real deal in that he is as Irish as they come so that alone, and his origin as a Dub, means he will appeal to a certain section of the population.

though only one with authentic prehistoric paintings.

It was pretty f**king boring, to be honest. I don't need to see a faint etching of a bison from 12,000 years ago to appreciate its significance as a historical artefact.

was lovely and cool, which alone made it worthwhile as it was about a hundred and f**k degrees outside.

I went to the biggest show they did in Toronto in a baseball stadium. Was about 55 thousand people there. You could see ok but I had relatively good seats but they'd have to put in massive screens everywhere.

If it happens I might have to pop over and attend the atmosphere would be crazy. This last fight in Vegas was over taken by the Irish. though much smaller arena I think it was 16 thousand.

If he did fight here you can be 100% sure it would be a relatively nuts night out.

Possibly messy though.

I ended up tagging along with a French-speaking tour group, as there were no spaces left on the English ones. It only added to me desire to f**k off back to my swimming pool sharpish.
