welfare dependency strategy at last.

Tax credits have been a nonsense all along. It might be painful for some businesses to begin with, but there has clearly been far too much exploitation of the system by unscrupulous employers.

I wonder if this new radical George might be persuaded to consider a National Citizen's Income? I believe the idea may have some merit.

I read yesterday that he faced opposition from three sides - the unions, the church and small businesses. That's three entities with relevance in today's society (well maybe the latter)

Someone posted this on my Facebook timeline - see if you can get past the first paragraph without punching the screen (or in fact the headline)

About time too.

Haha, 'it's not about the money!'

They really are selfish, bloated, feckless f**ks.

24 hr tube is required but to tell workers that they have to work nights (was reported 1 worker was given 16 out of 17 weekends to work) without radically increasing staff numbers isn't the way to do it

More the smug patronizing tone of the article that got me

Does seem like a case where more jobs will and should be created. Or they just invent driverless trains. DLR

But there's nothing yer Jerry likes better than arbeit, is there? You'd think they'd be volunteering in droves to work on Sundays.

I suppose you'd suffer from the catholic thing down there anyway, wouldn't you?

relaxed attitude to the whole work/life balance in that they want more of the latter. Come 4pm on a Friday everyone here is out the door and that is later than most place. Us normal folk use this as an excuse to grab a beer and sit around the office having a nice Friday afternoon drinkie

Someone's got to pay taxes so the Greeks don't have to.
