Apparently the dickhead pilot shut down his one working engine by mistake saying "Wow, pulled back the wrong side throttle". ****, you think?

It makes it sounds you are some sort of cowboy who likes dropping loads on peoples chips.

but he f**ked it.

You hope, in those circumstances, that those drills you've practised over and over again will kick in so your instinctive reaction is informed muscle memory - with one donk quitiing at such a height there's no time to think - and usually the system works, the pilot with automatically apply the rudder to counter the yaw, then 'DEAD LEG DEAD ENGINE' should flash through hi8s mind.

In this instance he blew it, and would only have realised when he couldn't maintain Vmca, which was far too late.

Whether this was because he is a dickhead, or because he simply made a mistake, we don't know.

Still. At least the bugger died.

something of a worry, tbh. Tends to endorse your views about the quality of chaps being allowed to fly.

Apparently he failed engine flameouts in simulation too, makes you wonder how he was flying real people about, really.

Mind you, that's one cab driver who isnt going south of the river at this time of night.

Is that one of those particularly tricky airports like on krypton factor?

Airline pilots are checked in the simulator twice (sometimes once) a year. They have all sorts of emergencies chucked at them and are expected to deal with them. However, given that these are the only opprotunities they get to practis these events, it's inevitable that they sometimes don't go exactly as per SOP, so they then de-brief and do it again.

It's an odd situation; the check ride is a teaching opportunity but is also considered a potential chop ride. It is, most importantly, an opportunity for regular refresher training.

He didn't 'fail' a sim check; it he'd failed the check his licence would have been pulled. He needed to repeat some exercises, which is what sim rides are supposed to be about, regular refresher training.
