View Full Version : So a couple of months back I booked to go scuba diving in Sharm El Sheikh this November. Now, with
the recent terror attacks in Tunisia, I have to say I'm questioning how wise it is to go. The Home Office say that it's still safe to travel to Sharm due to the enhanced security measures put in place by the Egyptian police/military. However, I've never been to Sharm so I'm unsure of how robust these precautions are.
I assume that these attacks in Tunisia are a timely reminder for all of the north African/Arab countries that rely heavily on tourisim that their livelihoods depend on making the tourists feel safe and secure.
Does anyone have any recent experience of Sharm? Am I going to get shot/blown up/beheaded by bloody muslims if I go? :-(

security was high (there was an Arab conference going on at a nearby hotel), so not sure what is like at other times of the year.

one evening as I hear it's very good.
I must admit, though - I have given consideration to changing destination now. Perhaps the Carribean would be safer.

It's the kind of place that Thomson Holidays go. It's full of things called 'resorts'. It's the sort of place where there are raows and rows of umbrellas on the beach. I expect the hotels offer 'International Buffet' for dinner. :-(

Terrorist: What makes you think you can stop me from killing you and everybody here?
Me: There is no sharm in trying :hide:
Terrorist: :hehe: Ok my friend you can go :driving:
Me: Pointing that gun at me gave me the Sheikhs
I am then killed instantly.
is some of the best in the world and all that I'm looking for is a week of sun and diving during the day followed by getting decidedly merry in the evening.
Where else can I go (without the need for a long flight) that will offer me what I seek?

… they put in some pretty sturdy anti-terror measures in place such as big f**k off gates on these resort hotels so people can't drive up to them without going through numerous obstacles. Would imagine the beaches which are normally private are pretty much the same particularly now. In short you are probably as safe there as anywhere. Though you will get eaten by a shark

It's an absolute shoe in for radicals to score a major terrorist coup and cause massive disruption to the country's income stream...
