on holiday, I never, ever learn my lesson and tell her that it's a **** idea and that the whole purpose of going on holiday is to escape the mundanities of domestic home life.

And so here we go again :-(

Quite often the rental of Self Catering simply means you have at your disposal some basics such as a fridge.

It does not mean you are a slave to the kitchen for the duration.

a bit restrictive imo. Self catering gives you the option of just picking up some lovely local produce and cooking yourself rather than having to rely on restaurants for feeding you.

Heat. Locally engaged domestic staff can be a disappointment, I grant you, but one must make sacrifices in order to travel.

or at least you can't since Maddie 'Maddie' McCann was cruelly snatched.

In a hotel or resort, you at least have the option of eating in an on-site restaurant and monitoring the baby on a phone or tablet.

You're on holiday man, it is what holiday makers do.

You may need to go out and eat a little earlier and then return to your room but that is your lot since you decided to sling it up your missus with (apparently) little thought of the consequences.

and watch them on your phone or tablet.

I would probably be comfortable doing what they did if I could see and hear if the baby woke up.

Perhaps I am a product of my age, but I find it staggering that they left a baby without any way of monitoring them.

Of course they're not. You had a kid.

f**k having the kids in a small ****ty hotel room with you. Get a 2 bed apartment/villa and away you go.

for always being persuaded to go self-catering, when a hotel or even an apartment within a resort, would allow far more evening flexibility.

Oh and by the way, your mum likes evening flexibility.

considered perfectly normal in my childhood. From being left alone in pub gardens/the car with a coke and a packet of crisps, to being allowed during the summer holidays to leave the house after breakfast and return at dinner time, basically roaming freely with friends with no means of communication or knowledge of where we were in the interim.

While not wishing to sound too 'Blue Remembered Hills' about it, I do believe they were happier times to be a child.

They would probably take exception to japes like picking up dog**** on a stick and flicking it at your friends. They're spoilsports like that.

There was the time I got caught naked in bed with Nicola from a few doors down, there was the Asian girl in school who used to insist I rummaged about inside her ribbed woolen tights before school and there was Abigail whatserface who ended up moving to New Zealand.

I was the George Clooney of infant school imo.

the room, I'll never make that mistake again. Any beers before going out were put in a bath of cold water :hehe: And to not have a pint or two of freezing cold water during the night was a disaster.

In summary: Monty is wrong and everyone else is right.
