Is to put some colour in the audience?

99.9% Middleclass white is fine for sponduliks but not good for credibility.

The audience wasnt really staunchly middle class tory voters until they started ticketing the whole thing like mad and got rid of all the holes in the fences.

TV audience maybe?

Thousands walked away from his performance it appears.

Whereas Lionel rocked it

It seems more lifestyley to me, it'd lost most of its edge by 2000 and I only went one other time after that.

Takes a certain type of person to throw caution to the wind and perhaps subject themselves to 4 days in a tent in perhaps ****, wet conditions.

Thing is Glastonbury is f**king huge now and to be deemed off as cutting edge and relevant they still need to book the big acts.

Once you go beyond the heritage acts like The Who and Stones from recent years what ‘normal’ guitar bands could you get – Radiohead, Blur …

they have forgotten the joy of the wielded axe.

This is what he have sunk to. A man shouting unpleasantries into a microphone backed by a tape of someone else's music. :-(

It makes me sad.

Watching new age travellers riot in 92 or rival drug gangs from Liverpool and Bristol tear into each other is not most peoples idea of fun.

The sheer volume of other things you could be doing while there is going to work against any headliner

Not some c**t who sings/raps with autotune. Jay Z was good a few years back though. Unfortunately Kanye West hasn't had a decent album for about 8 years and has morphed into some kind of weird c**t, so much of what he did on the stage was ****.

92 was a particularly good one I remember, I had blagged AAA passes for the first time and impressed my girlfriend with all manner of worldy knowledge.

I remember them kicking TF footballs into the crowd and me going over on one and knackering my ankle

And also 2/3 years ago . . .Paterson and Fehlmann were a pair of self indulgent ****s who appeared to take no notice that half the crowd disappeared to the bar during their disjointed set.

know f**k all about music. Why book tickets to a show where you have no idea who is playing? Why? Because you are going for the festival, not the music.

You are correct on the footballs, kicked loads of them into the crowd as they were generally promoting their new album at the time.

Famous black artists one and all, r. Not a flow between them.

Can you have 'a' flow, btw? I'm not asking you because you're, you know, one of them, but because you seem to know about this stuff.

later did lots of session work with Hawkwind. He became their tour manager, I believe. Anyway, he was a bloody good musician and carried the rest of us with him.

I'm sorry this doesn't fit your narrative.

If it helps, I played in a 'punk' band before that, whose single gig lasted just long enough for half a rendition of our signature tune 'Gob on you' before fighting in the 'audience' caused teachers to clear the hall. :-(

It was Hawkwind in a 12 hour 6pm - 6am psychedelic extravaganza at Brixton Academy.

And there in the middle of it was I.
