No, we went by aeroplane.

And so forth.

I'm in Singapore for a week in October. I shall report back.

It's full of Muslims and the food is double****.

If you're tempted to go near Bali, consider that it's the Australians' Magaluf. Actually there are Australians all over Indonesia.

If you insist on going, take your own drugs because they're hard to find once you're in.

Singapore's nice for a couple of days. Stay at Raffles and eat at hawker stalls, obviously.

That was the single best thing I ate.

You're far better off in Malaysia.

It's impossible to spend a week in Singapore and not break 37 different laws.

There's a lovely old English church by the cricket pitch. I thought of you when I visited. (Because of the stickball connection. It was nothing weird.)

Or does it not work like that anymore?

Not in Singapore though.

Bear in mind that every western-style bar and restaurant is filled to the brim with braying, pissed Australian bankers, and imagine how the local coppers feel about gweilu.

I bet prices are good if you manage, though.

Oddly, though, our overseas pro is Dutch. And bright ginger.

If you want a bit of beach and jungle, Langkawi's the place - it's a bit more developed than it was, but if you get up to the north it's still quite wonderful.

When you're there you could ask about and see if anyone has found it.
