- due to a hidden plumbing disaster which will require our flat to have all the floors ripped up just to find the source of the leak. Depending on the extent of the damage the place might need to be completely gutted to repair it. Meanwhile I’m waiting to find out whether the insurance will pay for alternative accommodation, or if indeed the insurance company will try find a way to wriggle out the whole claim completely due to the wording of the lease and the freehold/leasehold mullarkey. Already started putting stuff in storage – going away on a little holiday next week while the place is ripped up searching for the source. No idea what we’ll be coming back to.

Anyone know any good bridges to sleep under?

Having to deal with slimeball insurance brokers and Loss Adjusters has not been pleasant so far. Has anyone ever hired a Loss Assessor to work for them through all this ****? The trouble is that everyone – insurers, builders, managing agents are looking after their own interests and they all are experienced in dealing with this **** all the time. We’re not. 

Can they not rip the floorboards up in a bit, check there, and then put them back down? It seems a bit extreme to tear them all up at once imo. Perhaps there are technical reasons.

You might do well to invest a couple of hundred pounds for a solicitor to go through the wording of your insurance policy with you.

We've got an undercarriage problem on the aeroplane at the moment and the part isn't made any more. It has to be fabricated in Germany and then certified by the factory. It's going to cost thousands, f :-(

Half a supermarket trolley and some gaffer tape just isn't going to cut it.

start getting in and around the place, so the existing flooring should all be burned. Obviously I don't trust him, as he wants as much work as possible but he's been right so far on a few things, and how to get the insurance companies moving at all ie - get them to send a loss adjuster immediately.

For detection purposes though you're right. Should be able to keep a temporary flooring for a while once the leak is fixed to buy a bit more time.

Cost savings in terms of fuel also.

But the fuel based cost savings to which I alluded can be used to buy Camembert and a french stick.

I can't help with your undercarriage.

But you would feel much better analysing the problem in a room with nice clean air. my good friends at Electrolux are famous for their Clean dreams programme.
