View Full Version : Some won't be happy with signing Cech but for me it's a great move.

He's 33, he's tremendous, it will annoy Mourinho,

His presence alone will only benefit our defence. Also Sir Chesney can learn a lot from him as it appears Ospina is off.

If we can sign a new striker and add coquelin cover we really can challenge for the title next season :hide:

Perhaps one more CB too,.

Sczny will be 27/28 when Cech finishes with us and will have learned loads and, hopefully, forced him out the team by that time.

I do honestly think he could save us 9-10 points this season.

That my Canadian friend is human nature.

There would have been people unhappy when we signed Bergkamp ("**** in Italy"), there would have been people unhappy when we signed Mezut ("Madrid reject") and so on.

Cech is one that will split people and to a degree I can understand why. Personally I am perfectly happy with the scenario as quite simply I think he is better than either current employee in that position. Of course he may not be as good as he once was but few of us are.

imagine if you can add a ruthless striker too, that's some more points gained.

Basically we need more Sanchezes.

I'll be pleased if we get him, though. As I say, we've been without an outstanding goalkeeper for way too long. Seaman was a long time ago. Since then we've had Lehmann - a very able keeper, but one who unsettled his defenders and was occasionally a f**king liability; Almunia - a bad joke; Chesney - too young and prone to lapses; and Ospina - a midget.

we're back to square one, namely Flamini and Arteta.
Would you go Kondogbia over Schneiderlin?
He's more box to box, Carvalho is supposed to have looked good yesterday, although he was up against Tom Carroll.

Using our financial muscle and club status to attract a player at the very highest level, a player coveted by many others, using said financial muscle to force a large club into selling a prized asset who they may perhaps prefer to retain.

Signing a 33 year old keeper who is being allowed to leave, and who is 12 months from being free, in the specific case of Petr Cech, is a very good signing, a great addition.

One could argue that with the resources listed at the time we neither needed Ozil nor Sanchez, laden as we were with creative attacking talent. The fact is that both were world class footballers where circumstances deemed them available and both would improve our squad.

You can argue that we would not ‘need’ Pogba but then many would argue we do not ‘need’ Cech, pointing to last season’s displays and results with Ospina who it is worth remembering most people were perfectly happy though perhaps still harbouring doubts.

PP is however an absolutely phenomenal talent and one which every top club in Europe would welcome.

He would be, to return to the original comment, be a game changing signing. Every supporter of club football in Europe, or at least those whose name should not be on a register, would sit back and postulate “f**k me Pogba has gone to the Arsenal”.

We would then win everything, every year. Huzzah.

My campaign starts here and now.

He'll always be leetle beet ze moneyball manager because that's where he takes the most pleasure.

I know Pogba is phenomenal but he's far from the finished product and is pretty overvalued, given he's being touted as twice the Ozil fee.

Jake
06-19-2015, 09:54 AM
I think it's going to be hard to get past your tiny erection for PP. Much as I struggled with mine for Gotze.

Basically, we need world class players. Hence Mesut and Alexis. We're now in a position where we have a few world class players and some on the verge of being so in PP's position.

What we need more, though I would not say nay to Pogz arrival (which will never happen) is world class players in the positions we are deficient in. Hence Cech being a game changing signing. Throw Alex Song in and they may as well give us the league, imo.

or at least a forward with pace who runs off the ball.
So many times, once Walcott was killed,we had Giroud, Ozil, Cazorla. Wilshere/Rosicky and teams just pressed us high to which we had absolutely no answer.
Ozil, I agree we didn't need and bought simply because he was available, which is fair enough.

He, or perhaps you could say the deployment of that type of player, allowed others to flourish in front of him as he provided a safety net behind them in the event of possession being lost. His speed, tenacity and ability to break up play / win the ball was a marked change to the less mobile role offered by Arteta.

He did remarkably well it must be said.

There was also the factor of injured players returning such as Ozil (whose form or renaissance in the second half of the season was quite magnificent and indeed has been somewhat overlooked) and Giroud, the defensive balance improved markedly also with the full back pairing of Bellerin and Monreal a great pairing less likely to leave us exposed as previous pairings such as Chambers and Gibbs.

Him and Marchisio gave me an enormous hard-on as the CL Final developed. I would simply love to see Wenger develop him into the player he may become.

defenders want their keeper to be a calming presence rather than a loose cannon.

And it did f**king matter. It was the difference between winning a game against Tottenham and not winning a game against Tottenham. On what planet does that not matter? He had no business doing it and it f**ked me off.

I wouldn't agree he was a great keeper. He was too erratic ever to be a great keeper.

In the way that most players have been over the years because of Messi, it’s only now that absolute top quality of Neymar & Suarez are getting any degree of glory.

As good as they were previous players like Sanchez, Villa, Henry, Eto were just viewed by many as backup to the real act. Like the band on before the main act at Glastonbury, often huge in their own right but still a support act.

The relative ‘ease’ with which we got him, Liverpool really being the only other party, is absolutely staggering.

Juventus wanted him but didn't have enough money (as usual), I think City were hampered by FFP at that time and no idea why United or even Chelsea weren't in for him.
I am surprised by how well Neymar has done and how selfless he has been, less so Suarez, I know he is good but you had visions of Robinho mark 2 when he went there.
