View Full Version : Yesterday I saw a man, a grown adult male, riding a scooter.

You know, one of those things children stand on with one leg and push along with the other. But this was an adult. I assumed, obviously, that he had raped and murdered the child, dumped its body and made off on its scooter, and that a mob would shortly form and tear this transgressor limb from limb, but no one batted an eye.

The world is a puzzling place in the 21st century and no mistake.

I'm not sure an actual grown-up man born since 1980 has emerged yet. Certainly not from the middle classes, anyway.

There's no way you'd have got away with such behaviour in the 70s or 80s.

How have we fallen this far, sw?

This my friend is a scooter, and I am sure we all agree it is a thing of beauty and a thing to be coveted.

My apologies but I could have imagined you in the office on your scooter, with your beard, in a rush to show your latest powerpoint presentation to a bearded colleague, so off you pushed on your 'scooter'.

I appear to be wrong.

Still I have a significant birthday in a few years and hints are continually dropped.

euphemism 'graphic novel' or are they not even decently ashamed anymore?

Mind you, people like you who go around saying that personal taste is all that counts and that there is no such thing as 'good' or 'bad' art must shoulder their portion of the blame imo. The denial of such important standards is what leads to people talking about Batman as though he were a/ real and b/ anything other than trash culture.

martial traditions. Put him in mind of the pickets at Agincourt, the squares at Waterloo and the gun decks at Trafalgar, where his forebears showed the world what it is to be an Englishman.

Then break one of his wheels off and watch him blub like a 6 year old girl. :-(

acceptable. It's like anything else: only once you have acquired an understanding of the canon can you be said even to have personal taste, let alone be allowed to pretend your tastes have any weight.

Like the old 3 wheeled blue that was around when we were young and which would bizarrely always appear behind the goal at Stamford Bridge back in that era.

Modern day so-called 'mobility scooters' are for older perhaps less able and perhaps lazy people.

About 2 weeks ago I was entering a pub with the family when an old man was exiting, a little worse for wear it seemed so I stood back and held the lounge door open for him. He thanked me so I went to get the outer door which he declined as the f**ker got onto his 'mobility sccoter' which he had parked in the foyer type area, forced the outer door open and sped off down the f**king road.

Where is the honest Tommy to come from?

I can't see today's feckless youth flocking to the Colours :-(

Why, our very own Berni told me once that he wouldn't lay down his life for the Colours. That is an indication of the lack of moral fibre in this country.

the magical pikey elves to take away. In it was an original ZX Spectrum 48k like what Young Berni owned.

I was genuinely tempted to take it away until I remembered there was no point in doing so. So I contented myself with the Proustian rush of touching the rubber keyboard and giving the Z and X keys a good hammering to see if my Daley Thompson's Decathlon skills were still sharp.

We used to line up in turns to do 1000m each.

Even more punishing, and wrong looking if viewed from the back, when done on one of the old Quickshot II joysticks.

Berni
06-18-2015, 10:32 AM
That, too, was punishing and looked wrong when viewed from the back.

Sorry. Had to be done. :-

I quickly realised that your super-fast time on the sprint events in DT's Decathlon simply wasn't worth the fact that it inevitably f**ked the Quickshot joystick you'd been saving up your paper round money for.
