the suggestion that a school in the United Kingdom should be allowed to ban mothers from driving their children to school on the grounds of religious tolerance.

I just cannot.

schools of any flavour. If our liberalism stops at allowing children the freedom to vote, than it should also stop at the freedom to brainswash them with religious bull****.

I like the way he's identified that in an attempt to stop the Muslamics breeding terrorists they have to look even-handed and clamp down on all the other religions, but to be honest, none of the feckers should be allowed schools.

deprive religious people of the right to have their children educated according to their faith, which is a right that I think we must endorse in the name of tolerance of freedom of thought.

But freedom of thought does not extend to refusing to allow women to drive their children to school. This is a denial of rights that is in direct contravention of British law, which all religious people are required to adhere to, regardless of which or how many flying spaghetti monsters they believe in.

values are likely to include by-laws based on absurd prejudices. It's what religions do.

My kids go to a catholic school and are going through all the ridiculous rigmarole that goes along with that.

It's still all *******s.

I don't see it as loyalty. I am simply a catholic for whatever that means.

I'm certainly not a f**king protestant. Good lord.

their children, through their parenting and their schooling – but also that this right ends where British law begins.

Equally, we retain the right to consider these people delusional, depraved scum and to say so publically.

I am pretty sure that most people don't actually believe that Jesus ever really existed and did all the funny stuff with fishes and bread. He's not f**king Dynamo after all.

It's more about bull**** values related to how a person should (try to) live their life.

Got two of the f**king things to attend for two weekends running - one in Windsor the other in Harrogate :banghead:

Honestly, you think you're put the woods when all your f**king friends have got married, then the baby *******s begins.

Still, at least I've avoided any circumcision ceremonies so far,

You have been forced into thinking you are part of a religion that you actually have no part of. You treat catholicism as an identity. You could argue that growing up in the Six Counties has a lot to do with it I suppose, but even non-Irish catholics have the same identity thing going on.

I went to a Protestant school. Does that make me a Prod to be hated? Does it make a difference whether I pray or not?

As that was your basic identity, a catholic or a protestant. It was very difficult to ignore.

As you say it is an identity, not a religion.

We don't even fight each other anymore.

inextricably linked. To the extent, in fact, that it's quite difficult for certain Irish people to really regard a protestant as 'properly' Irish.

The loyalty to the tribe thing is partly that, but also has a fair bit to do with a history of persecution in the UK.

One of my favourite things about Ireland is that if someone is in anyway catholic they are automatically accepted as in some way already partially irish.

I went over there with a Spanish girlfriend once, she was far more popular than I ever was there.
