View Full Version : I know it's been mentioned here on here about Wilshere getting Goal of the season again

But I don't think Charlie Adam should have won it.

Something about those long range own half efforts I don't like. I was never a fan of Beckham's won either.

Can't believe the link down below is from a proper grown up paper and not a childish fan's page

On another note - Jack has a pretty decent goals to goal of the season ratio. Not entirely sure it was our best goal of the season though

those early on simply because they're fresh in the mind. Although it must be said that putting it up for twitter vote was pretty spectacularly f**kwitted

Preferred Walcott's second goal all the same.

Interesting call for Arsene on Saturday, though I expect he will go with his countryman.

but bringing on Theo with 20 mins to go if the game is tight might be not bad idea. Especially if there is Extra time

Depends on Villa's game plan. I assume they'll try to shut up shop.

Qualified by the fact that he was against an opposition that could not give a *******s and further qualified by previous performances where he had been less than impressive coming from the bench in a forward role.

Giroud will start, our young Lions Walcott and Wilshere to come from the bench with 20 to go.

How many of Olly's goals this season would Theo have scored?

Monty91

of Scziesny, Gabriel, Gibbs, Chamberlain, Wilshere, Theo, Wellbz

And given that across a season there's probably zero games in which at least 2-4 of those 18 aren't injured, then every player in the squad who will want to be included (add to the above Arteta, Bellerin, Chambers) will have a chance of either starting or being on the bench in every game.

Never mind the (mooted/estimated) 2-3 new arrivals.

I also think the age demographic of a lot of the fringe players you name would suggest they will soon become unhappy at not being first choice players on a very regular basis.

Sanchez will probably start next season on the bench after his Copa America exertions, which will give Theo a chance to stake their claim. Wellbz will get plenty of game time due to his versatility.

Debauchy I expect will be back at right back next season. Chambers is an ideal fourth choice centre back.

Rosicky and Arteta will hopefully be content with bit-part roles given their age.

PSRB
05-26-2015, 11:11 AM
especially if Kieran Richards isn't fit, they will have an incredibly slow back line. Think they'd far happier facing Olivier

If Wilshere was on a Daley Blind level we wouldn't worry about him being on the bench because he's too good to be sitting on it. I can't think of another top team in the league that would have one of Wilshere/Ramsey on the bench every week. Guaranteed starters at most other top european clubs (Barca/Real/Juve/Bayern not included).

Peter
05-26-2015, 11:14 AM
I would say it is looks a reasonable option.

Still expect him to go with giroud though.

Monty91
05-26-2015, 11:15 AM
On the contrary, he should be delighted he's at a club with such competition for places.

Also, I recall a year or two ago suggesting that the fact that Wilshere was a guaranteed starter for us was indicative of our problems. At Chelsea, he would be on the bench most weeks, learning his trade

So I'd rather have that option off the bench than having the possibility of starting and being ineffectual.

Especially as Welbz and Ox aren't likely to be options off the bench.

When the team are not firing.

Still, short of goals recently and we know that gets to him.

I quite like the thought of theo against their back line. Forces them back a bit.

But say for example to facilitate both Ramsey and Wilshere then you omit Cazorla. Harsh in the extreme on paper given he has been the best footballer at the club this season, or at least during the part of the season where we have excelled.

I just cannot see any of them being happy with any extended duration on the bench (fitness etc allowing). They are 'too good' not to be first team.

Walcott and Chamberlain the same, one of whom will presumably miss out as Ozil and Sanchez must start 90% of matches they are able to.

Not so Welbeck.

when the person they're competing against for the spot in the team isn't playing well. I don't think it's good to have a set team regardless of form of the players.

Monty91
05-26-2015, 11:23 AM
and if you can't stay fit your place will be taken by another top, top player who will not give it up easily.

That's life at a big club. Chamberlain, Wilshere and Walcott have absolutely no right to expect to start next season in the first team. And I expect they are intelligent enough to accept this.

Monty91

If there's no meaningful competition, what's the point in staying at the club if you're not one of the automatic starters?

Jake

Or are we talking about the two starting occasions from memory vs Newcastle and West Brom that suit the argument?

Monty91

The great thing about our midfielders is how interchangeable they are. You can swap them around with very little impact on the balance or fluidity of the side.

unsure.

Also, we don't know his state of mind. He may be in a massive sulk about losing his place.

Paying Fabianski last season was a no-brainer (though Wenger would have been ripped apart had he cost us the cup).

He really ticked every box on sunday and his pace alone causes enormous problems for a defence that Giroud will not ever be able to offer.

Without actually knowing the chap I suspect Ron Vlaar would be much happier in seeing OG in the tunnel.

You can be married in a civil ceremony and you are still 100% married, no churches involved.

Not sure if two queers will ever be allowed to marry in a Catholic church all the same.
