wd dc. I may not agree with his politics, but I salute any man who pulls himself up by his bootstraps and achieves high office.

I suspect Ed knows nothing of horses or guns. They'd have had nothing in common.

There'll be dancing amongst the Chipping Norton set this weekend, and no mistake. How the heart rejoices that the correct sort remain in charge.

And I speak, of course, as one for whom the result is a great blow, professionally. I think not of self at such a time, but of my country.

Is there a more profoundly worthwhile human endeavour than working to give one's family a leg up on life's difficult path?

Where I'm from you'd get battered for thinking you could ascend to a baronetcy. The most we could hope for would to one day be an Esquire

It's interesting, especially in public life, to see where people have came from as it's often quite, quite different to the impression they like to give of themselves. See also Anthony Wedgewood Benn, Eric Blair etc

In a personal sense I couldnt care less, I've Ulster Unionist friends, Right Libertarian friends and even Man United supporting Yorkshiremen friends.
