What is the point of them these days.

It's not like they actually represent a borough in any meaningful way. the local council take care of the management of your area so what is the purpose of having MPs dedicated to any particular geographic area?

I'm beginning to believe that the current system is outdated and needs a bit of a rethink. Very rarely is Parliament actually representative of the way the people vote on a national level, and as this is the national government we are voting for perhaps it should be.

For example, it's beginning to look like the SNP will take pretty much all of the seats in Scotland but not represent the 30% or so of the people that didn't vote for them. When you have a seat won by a tiny majority, say, single figures, those that didn't vote for the marginal winner remain unrepresented for the life of that Parliament.
