have a clear mandate to form a government. Consequently there will be a period, perhaps a lengthy period, of meetings and negotiations until either Dave or Weird Ed pops over to the palace for a chat with HMQ.

We could easily be without a government for a week.

Surely there is a cabal of disaffected generals just waiting to seize this opportunity to put tanks on the street, seize Broadcasting House and declare martial law?

A military junta could really put the Great back into Britain.

Trouble is from what I can see, our current crop of generals are all namby-pamby wastemen who care more about creating an equal opportunities Army than crushing insolent natives or killing communists. :-(

I parked by the pencil museum yesterday. The glw tried desperately to make me go inside; happily, there was a queue.

I'll say that again. THERE WAS A QUEUE FOR THE PENCIL MUSEUM.

Admittedly usually where it makes no difference to the outcome.

Old tories can count

If Dave and George had a ball between them, we might have climbed out of this mess. Unfortunately they seem fixated on pandering to benefit junkies.

PM merely needs to instruct her majesty to dissolve parliament.

Traditionally a vote of no confidence would force the PM to instruct disolution but this is just convention.

The unemployment figures also don't look so great when you factor in all of the jobs which are so low paid that we effectively pay the equivalent of job seekers allowance, and in some cases more, for anyway.

Basically it's fine as long as you don't look too hard at any of the figures and don't understand economics.

We used to stay in a B&B on the little road at its foot, before we got hooked on inns. A cottage sounds nice, although it can mean cooking your own breakfasts.

Sir Charlie of Nicholas
05-05-2015, 12:06 PM
Yes, I can see myself in a cottage in Elterwater, pottering about the garden, pausing to cast an eye at the sunlight changing across the fell. Cup of tea at 3, dinner at 6, bed after the news at 10.

Of course, I'd have to live somewhat modestly, but I think I can manage that.

Of course if I were to retire now I wouldn't be able to afford such fripperies. :-(

You would hate the weather.

Anyway, for various reasons, I prefer to give the whole region the swerve these days.

really hope for a labour win imo as then they can say labour did it and win for next 10 to 20 years as next generation passes through.

basically it just seems there is a link between how a small islands pisspots little economy fairs and what is happening to the global economy..no one makes it stronger or weaker by themselves so as Belgium proves ..f**k em..makes no difference who wins
