View Full Version : Why is such a fuss being made of the 'boring boring Chelsea' chant?

It was a taunt. From fans. At a football match. As happens in every game. Every week.

Is all this something to do with the fact that Abramovich has already sacked Mourinho once for, erm, being boring, and so the club are a bit tetchy about it, hence the PR campaign?

When Arsenal were boring we were called boring and we knew we were boring.

Nice to see Rio has taken up the magnanimity mantlepiece and said nice things about John Terry, mind. Even the most die hard Terry haters would probably agree.

“Just because we no longer get on does not mean I’ve lost my admiration for him as a footballer. His performances for Chelsea this season have been nothing short of outstanding and I’m not afraid to say it."

bases its commercial appeal. It's also because it is to some extent true.

The thing I find funniest about it is the way the press and media are so far up Mourinho's arse that they'd report it as fact if he said black was white.

alone that the team that has won the league is boring and is making its way to the title inch by tedious inch with all the class and elan of a steel-puddler's underpants.

Frankly, watching them all fist-pumping and celebrating after coming to our place and stinking the place out was genuinely bizarre for a team that far ahead of us on points. To do so to choruses of 'Boring, boring Chelsea' was the least they deserved, but Sky can't afford to see it that way.

It came up last Sunday and first Mourinho was asked, then I think Terry after the game on Wednesday. They are going to answer when asked. Mourinho is going to answer in his normal manner which invariably means he will try to be a comedian while coming across as snide (if you are a supporter of the team he is referring to).

Media love it of course and will try to drag it out as it is another chapter in Arsene v Mourinho. It will no doubt be a feature of both clubs press conferences this weekend.

b/ Because they are focusing on it with a strong bias towards a refutation of the charge.

No big deal, of course - and meaningless in the greater scheme of things - but it's nice to see him irritated.

The suggestion that clubs have an obligation to play attractive football is an elitist, aesthetic one. In other words, nothing to do with the target market of a low-brow media entity such as Sky Sports.

he may get angry and tell his team to cross over the half way line when playing a decent team.

Of course what I mean there is over commit and defend badly. You might have seen some team or another do that on occasion

To suggest they are is heresy.

The 5bn investment must be protected...Chelsea therefore play smart winning football aided by the best player in the league Eden Hazard.

other sides who complain need to grow up.

Fwiw the pl has been getting weaker and weaker over the last few seasons and its sides like Chelsea and City who don't improve and contribute anything to the league that is partly to blame.

They buy the best but do nothing with it....the rest of the league suffers by having to play sub standard competition week in week out and just compete when they take on their European counterparts.

aren't boring. They're smart enough to know that ignoring it simply won't work, so they're trying to kill it off and make it unsayable.

I only saw of or read comments attributed to them after the two games this week.

Comments from Sky pundits I wouldn't necessarily put a lot of store on as they are simply perpetuating a story to allow Sky report on it.

They are deserving champions. Do I think they have won it in a boring manner? No. A championship season is 38 games not just the last few when yes they have perhaps been hugely focused on not losing as opposed to winning.

because of unnatractive football.

You will have noticed that Arsene Wenger is famous for wanting to play attractive football, although you seem to have changed your mind about him since last sunday.

I know. :-( I was gutted when he did. I'd have preferred it if he'd gone to United, since I think the fans would have taken against him there. Chelsea is simply his natural home.

I wouldn't be nasty about him if he weren't so consistently nasty about the Arsenal. I'd have happily ignored the fact that he's clearly a spasticated c**t and revered his memory if he'd have kept his f**king gob shut.

The FA Cup is a bit ****, though, isn't it. Look at the four teams we've faced in the semi final and final for the past two years. It's almost embarrassing.

Though quite incredibly with 3 of the 4 sides you allude to we have conspired to almost f**k it up each time.

We really are quite something else in this respect.
