Your good lady - like most people - only has these beliefs insofar as they don't cause her any real inconvenience. For the record, I don't think any the less of her for that, since it simply makes her human.

I was with a Somalian and a bloke from Nigeria and the Somalian just said, unprompted, "This is Africa we're talking about, people die".

I'm quite proud of our historical record on refugees and asylum seekers, less so recently though.

I think, colonial guilt aside, we've sort of got a duty to. You know, as a civilised country and all.

I would, however, counsel a proper integrated EU solution. Much like we house people in Hastings from London boroughs we could much better house people in some of the countries that are rapidly losing population, like Portugal for instance.
