Ok hitting London this weekend for some football and beer

Decided to head uptown to the bright lights of capital city. Have not done this in a while and wondering what are the decent pubs, late bars around Leicester Sq and Trafalgar Sq areas. There will be 4/5 of us and most of them like their music cheesy and danceable(not me)

Any decent clubs around these areas as easier to get back home from here with late buses etc.All recommendations welcome.

Cheers

I like the Maple leaf near covent garden. But I haven't been there in ages so don't know if it's any good.

if you want dinner go to Sartori it's ace.

Well, sometimes the places I drink have a pianist and a lounge singer. It always makes one feel like one is in a 60s movie, doesn't it?

only open til midnight though like most bars as Westminster is strict on licensing

f**k knows about clubs - the Borderline was always good and tacky in my day but I#m :old:

Buses is entirely dependent on where you are staying

It's a f**king kip.

Much more fun to be found in other areas, perhaps more logically based depending on where you are staying.

I note from your 'profile' that you perhaps drink in the Mercantile. If so then walk into any bar on any high street.

I am staying in South London while the rest staying in Finsbury. Others are doing Camden Friday night and they want to do something different on the Sat. Have done most of the pubs in Islington and around so just want to try somewhere different

Yep we all drink in the Mercantile but the girls want to Bop and head uptown. I'd be happy back in Camden

The shops are either completely **** or gone all flash.

I got one a few weeks ago I thought this is a bit strange.
Bloody rice with it. RICE. and fancy bread

it was nice but no thanks.

It's like a medley of every kebab ever, it's so big that conventional pitta bread will not suffice and it has to be wrapped in a giant Naan.

After last years Cup Final we got out of the cab at Old Street roundabout as there is/was a very good kebab shop about 100 yards away and en route to our hotel (Central Street).

Could we find it? Could we f**k.

Think we had to get another cab in fact.

Use your innate Irish initiative in these circumstances.

Suggest the early cure, get into a pub in Camden early doors and before you know what time it is you will all be dancing.

Stratford upon avon. Rubbish fish and chips.
Manchester - found a top crappy pizza takeaway that did hotdogs and all stuff. Very good
Swansea - Worst breakfast I've ever had in this cafe. Weatherspoons breakfast is better. When food arrives 5 seconds after ordering it be very concerned.
Southampton - ace kebab shop near some strip club. did pizza with kebab meat.

You'd think I'd be spot for choice down Green Lanes but not of them hit the spot.

Actually the next left turn after the Kebaberie would take you down where Whitecross Market used to be.

f**ked if I could find it and I was the one with the knowledge of the manor.

Drink was taken.

he'd go in there in his uniform and take his tie off and have a pint. (no badge on his blazer)

I looked him on facebook. Early 30's he looks about 65.

I think I first heard it ascribed to Bagleys. It was also there that I first heard a large black man described as 'a massive four-door', which was racist and absolutely terrible and didn't cause me to guffaw at all.

chip shop then go to the Barbican and security would kick us out.

You stayed at the Thistle Barbican?

Such a good club that you'd often come home without your tshirt.

Four door? New won on me. Is it me or has racialism got less inventive?

quite ridiculous now. Especially now Jurys is also a Hilton.

For some reason the Premier Inn in City road is always full of northern families.

Check in, room not ready, leave bag with concierge, come back at 2am, collect bag from concierge after trying to show him all manners of receipts and LU daily passes (unused), alarm at 7am and leave.

No point in me giving my user experience to TripAdvisor.

We had a lummoxy kid who, at the age of 11, could feasibly pass for an adult. He sent me an FB request and it turns out he's just carried on exponentially growing and is now, by the looks of it, well over 7ft tall.

You can't beat 55 quid a night in central London and they're pretty decent for that price.

Cheaper than Jurys normally, perhaps proximity to Upper Street allows a higher price.

I lived in the Thistle for about 10-12 weeks once on relocation from Ireland. My top level boss nearly f**king killed me when a bill eventually got to him for sign off.

Another c**t, from Bradford.

There's an excellent place round by Kentish Town, quite lauded apparently, I've only been once.

That's pretty much every area of London sorted imo.
