Being from London the beards would suck you off and copy everything you do, it would then become part of our youth culture.
Loads of pubs around the city centre, just take your pick when you view the clientele in attendance. My two favourite boozers in the city are The Palace on Fleet Street and the Long Hall on South Great Georges Street. Neither are rocking.
Bernard Shaw in Portobello is a good spot if you want something more lively. Only 5 minutes or less in a taxi from either of the above.
Depending on where your hotel is then avoid going over the river to the Northside. If your hotel is on the Northside then cross the river with haste and only return within the safe confines of a taxi. When you are in the taxi be prepared for customer service on a level you will never have experienced before, and equally racism that you may not have experienced before but not directed at you.

I am a 6 minute stumble from the Long Hall and a 13 minute trek from Bernard Shaw, wonderful.
ty sw, I hope to appropriate and gentrify your favourite spots.
By the time I've left they'll only be serving Meantime and black pudding scotch eggs.
