How close to the platform is close enough?

A commuter was hit in the head by an oncoming train as he bent down to pick up his belongings at a London underground station on Friday morning.

The man, thought to be in his 20s, was rushed to Kings College Hospital with serious head injuries after the horrific accident at Stockwell station shortly before 9am.

His condition is unknown.

Witnesses said the man had bent down to either pick up his bag or pick up a lighter as the train approached.

One claimed that his head had been "pretty much sliced off" and another said she had seen his "brain hanging out" although paramedics confirmed that he was alive on arrival at hospital.

to get on a train (I try to arrange life so that this never happens) I practically press myself against the back wall as the train approaches.

Some station platforms get so crowded that they're literally a Hillsborough waiting to happen. http://www.awimb.com/images/smiley_icons/ohwell.gif

I get you though, I've always hated rush hour on the tube. The motorbike was the best commuting decision I ever made.

That middle part in KC was a daily battle.

Then I discovered the other way.

I love that about the tube. The unwritten rule that people who speak on the tube are imbeciles and nut jobs.

It binds one up, though, I believe. Can't be doing with constipation.

The colonic irrigation should deal with the binding, surely?

myself and we have promised ourselves a little taste of the poppy when we reach that disturbing age.

We shall pop 'Golden Brown' on repeat and see what all the fuss was about.
