View Full Version : Do people really just sit or lie about in their front rooms listening to music?

I listen to music while doing other things - running, driving, cooking, etc. The idea of just sitting there just listening to it seems very odd to me.

To really listen to music, you have to listen to it.

It is possible, given sufficient quality, to focus the whole mind on the music which in turn does wonderful things for the mind.

I would have music on all the time as mentioned earlier, though most of the time (despite stereotypical and hugely inaccurate accusations from some, Berni to be specific) I normally tend to be doing ****.

Of a late saturday evening though I will happily lie back, mood lighting, nice fire, music on just contemplating life.

requiring little or no higher brain function. That's when I get the most out of it - particularly classical music.

to sit still and get all ****y about it.

Besides, you like The Clash, who are objectively terrible. Really listening to them would physically hurt me. Just hearing them is bad enough.

Plus, I soon get bored or distracted.

I have been here 2 weeks as my father-in-law has had a stroke. He is now in a home but disabled and demented.

Belgrade itself is dissolving really. The middle classes replaced by nouveau rich gangsters, politicians and anyone on the take generally.

Third world economy rules

You don't record and mix a proper recording with f**king headphones. At least you didn't when I was recording. To hear something properly you need proper monitors. With air between it and your ears and a room for natural reverb.

The only time I am listening to music at home is if I am decorating or doing something like that. Or analysing a song to learn it.

so gangsters and politicians reaped the benefits. State taxes anybody with old wealth, like property or the few remaining businesses they do not control.
Huge black market and tax evasion is rife.

Everybody has a scam or two to either make money or avoid paying it.

Average take home is around 280-350 pound per month now and food bills account for 65 per cent of that if you sre careful

No real health service now. The doctors sent my father-in-law home as the care would be better and infections are rife here.
MRSA etc is everywhere

No cleaners and the nurses are all looking to get a year's experience before moving to Germany or Switzerland.

Still, if you want to visit then Ciggies are less than 2 pound and beer too. In fact cans are around 60-80p

They do party like it is 1999 too, basically end of the world vibe to the place.

A kindle contains precisely the same information as a hardback. Each letter is there, and they are 100% identical.

Music, OTOH, when digitised from its natural analogue waveform, is rendered to a certain resolution. MP3s, at the level that most people like to cram thousands of songs onto one tiny device, and perhaps even more so for streaming, are at a very low resolution. It's like the difference between watching the match on HDTV, or on a blurry stream.

So having lost a lots of the original waveform to the digitisation, the music is eventually turned back into a waveform that travels in air by the speaker. The poorer the speaker (and earbuds are poor, especially for bass) the more information is lost.

So information is lost when the content is rendered to a lossy file-format, and further lost when played through speakers that cannot process all the frequencies.
