Simply pointing out to you as internet comrades how it may appear, say in a court of law.
I personally would have washed my hands, made good my exit and then approached him outside and said whatever it was that needed to be said.
There is a sense of decorum and unspoken rules which apply in the sanctum of a gent's toilets, generally based around as little conversation as possible save for the classic "better out than in" whilst stood at the porcelain pisswall.
