Did the voice c**t on ITV make that bit about the deliberate back-pass up?

Has to be a deliberate pass or touch by the opposition in order to make an attacker onside.

Billy Goat Sverige

In so much as he was offside from the original kick. No idea what he was waffling on about with the whole intentional back pass *******s.

Monty91

It makes absolutely no sense.

would not change the fact that Kos was offside

I don't even understand what he COULD have meant.

Billy Goat Sverige

was in an offisde position when the free kick was taken or if it came off an Arsenal head and not a Monaco one. He made up that rule, and he seemed to actually believe it.

which it blatantly isn't when an attacker gets the ball unintentionally from a team mate

Last night was possibly the first ever time, certainly if not ever then first in many years, where I watched an Arsenal game on ITV.

The commentator was 100% sure of his statement as he returned to it a few minutes later to confirm what he had said.

'A player in an offside position receiving the ball from an opponent, who deliberately plays the ball (except from a deliberate save), is not considered to have gained an advantage.' (my emphasis)

It would appear that Clive is right, Clive.

confused at the time.

Are we positive that it has to be deliberate from the opposition player to be counted as onside? This could be a little-known about rule which virtually never comes into question.

Of course, the referee gave it offside because he thought it came off an Arsenal player, but that's by the by.

the background noise was Irish folk music and a very loud Canadian though so not all good. I may have over-indulged. This morning is not my most productive

the initial free kick and therefore I refuse to believe that Kos would be offside from a defender's flick, no way. Offside is only from a pass from your team mate, end of.

shootbang and mummy will be so pleased! But if the ball only bounce off the badman in your direction by mistake, then the flaggyman will waggle his stick and you will poo your nappy again :-(

It's quite clear. Clive was right.

pitch can be deemed to be deliberate.

This understanding is at the root of all sport, which is why collies chasing sheep is fine, whereas bullterriers doing the same get shot.

or he was in an offside position when the ball was played from the free kick.

He would have been OK if the defender was deemed to have headed the ball back deliberately towards his keeper

Billy Goat Sverige

level with the last man, the defender goes to clear it in which time Sanchez is now beyond the last defender, defender f**ks up the clearance and it bounces off his thigh into Sanchez's path.

That's not offside is it?
