View Full Version : It's 50 years this year since the relase of Rubber Soul. Half a century.

Halfway between now and the first world war. Drive My Car. Girl. Nowhere Man. In My Life. All 50 years old.

How odd is that?

I think it's either Revolver or The White Album tbh, though I thought you'd appreciate Revolver's more satirical elements.

So if people refer to the songs on a Beatles album, it means nothing to me. I know most of the songs, of course, but have no idea of their albumular heritage.

how to use the reel to reel so I could listen as much as I liked. They would borrow and record every Beatles album as they were released and would tuck into it with no limits.

I believe that soaking my brain with this quite brilliant, multilayered and beautifully nuanced music ruined my education as everything else that was supposed to be of interest seemed dull, flat and monochromatic. Nothing excited me until I got taken to my first top flight footy match at the age of eight.

What chance did I have? :-(

I find.

So, unless I'm mistaken, your birthday this year falls on Good Friday, doesn't it? I take it you're not planning to do any celebrating on the holiest and most solemn day in the Christian calendar? :-(

Was looking through them on iTunes the other day thinking of which to buy. Settled on the Partridge option.

I'm Only Sleeping, Tomorrow Never Knows, She Said She Said, Doctor Robert.

I also think McCartney's contributions were consistently good on the album.

I just dislike the whole concept, tbh. I may like individual songs in passing, but I ultimately just can't get behind them. They jar with me.

Plus, I've always loathed anything to do with John Lennon.

how susceptible and rapaciously hungry the brain is at that age c. And to have it bombarded with, not jut The Beatles, but the whole Invasion ouvre.

I have fond memories of my dad's 8-track player, it gave out a lovely sound. Long gone now obviously but I still have a few cartridges somewhere.

Fear not c. One's libido, along with the accompanying boners, remain quite undiminished.

What you are about to discover, if it hasn't already happened, is that almost overnight, you will become totally invisible to younger women unless you indicate that you are prepared to sweeten their lives shall we say.

I wonder if people realised they were listening to history being made?

It was new and they were young, history was a relatively meaningless concept to them.

The scenario you have painted however was not unique to the 60s, new perhaps as I have said before but not unique.

Running down to Carlins Records in Newry during school lunchtime to try and get the new Jam single with a picture sleeve, or one of the early release albums with printed inner sleeve. Then rushing home as you say to play it.

Only to get home and find your older brother was in place and was listening to Rush or Zeppelin or something equally as offensive.
