View Full Version : I see Clarkson's been suspended for something the BBC found outrageous.

I don't have a great deal of time for Clarkson or the sort of people who think he's 'a legend' (they usually talk like this in my experience). However, he is useful in exposing the greed and hypocrisy of the beeb. He and his programme represent everything the BBC hates (a disdain for political correctness, a love of cars, a sort of crude English patriotism, a love of conspicuous consumption, environmental scepticism, etc), but Top Gear is so popular and such a money spinner that they can't get rid of it.

If the BBC actually had any principles, it would have jettisoned the programme (or at least Clarkson) years ago. However, much to its chagrin - although to the delight of its accountants - it is so lucrative that they can't. And so we get to watch the BBC squirm and wriggle in embarrassment at this dilemma born of its own hypocrisy and greed. Great fun.

Personally, I like the chap and enjoy the program. Mostly for how much it seems to irritate people

As these days the establishment is considerably to the left of Berni, his perception is understandable, at least.
