View Full Version : It's amazing to think that we have actually watched a referee cheat in a top level English game.

It doesn't get any less bizarre with the passing of the years. It seems unlikely that he was paid, so what actually prompted Riley to determine the outcome of that game? And how has no one ever seriously questioned the events of that afternoon?

The complete lack of acknowledgement that Rooney tumbling gets sickens me.

After all, to promote a man who honestly got a massive and high-profile game that badly wrong to become head of referees would in many ways be weirder than just accepting he was got at, wouldn't it?

Mind you, the English are as naive as African defenders when it comes to corruption, sometimes.

the only defence he can have is that I've never seen him actually ref a game well therefore it must just be down to pure incompetence

Sir Charlie of Nicholas
03-10-2015, 01:12 PM
he was booked, after which Phil could take over...

The Rooney dive was just pathetic. I remember at the time laughing out loud at how ridiculous he looked, then realising he'd given a penalty...

How did the lino not see van Nistelrooy trying to break Cole's leg?

Ferdinand on Ljungberg just puts a tin lid on it.

when he gave penalties for people sneezing near Van Nistelrooy. I mean no one even questioned why one referee was officiating in soooooo many matches for the same team. It was a joke

Go and watch it, and then you'll be qualified to comment.

Newcastle V Arsenal another example of a ref influencing the outcome

that one game in order to make sure the 'right' result was achieved. The silence around it wasn't even a conspiracy, I don't think. I think it was more that talking about it at all would have involved admitting that the whole game was bent.

Those Manc feckers should have been down to 9 men imho.

Am I wrong in remembering that Rio did a shocker of a tackle as the last last man, so should have been sent off?
