View Full Version : 6 matches ban for spitting, 3 for a leg breaking tackle, doesn't seem right to me!

Football cannot ever accept that players deliberately try to injure each other. Dark days indeed if it did, imo.

Presumably as with racism (Suarez) they have adjudged it to be an action totally outside the normal actions of a football match and have decided to penalise it accordingly.

A very bad or dangerous tackle can simply be a case of bad timing and involve absolutely no malice on the players behalf, yet still warrants a red card. Tackling is after all an accepted part of the sport. Footballers tackle and expect to be tackled.

Spitting is not. Nobody expects to be spat on, other than lead singers in mid to late 1970s Punk rock bands.

And the reason we don't allow foreigners to invent globally popular sports.

You can only expect the FA to make a judgement on the basis of the dangerous tackle being so and then awarding a ban, which they see as 3 games, as the tackle is a straight red card. You simply cannot then look at the resultant injury which was caused by the tackle, impossible.

3 games for a bad or dangerous tackle that causes no injury. Maybe 6 games for a bad tackle that causes ankle ligament damage and a 6-8 week absence, 30 games for a bad tackle which causes cruciate ligament damage etc.

Dangerous tackle = straight red = 3 games. I have no problem with that at all.

The concept of a straight red always equalling a 3 game ban is incorrect but that is where we are ( I think).

Recklessness of a tackle.

I think intent is the issue as rich suggests.

What did keane get for haaland tackle and admission...3 +5 wasnt it?

The problem is that in the majority of cases the intent is very difficult to establish.

I do think a clear two footed tackle should have a longer ban.

It was in fact a gesture of friendship akin to a handshake.
