Get the monkey off his back and other cliches.

He must have been close to a drought, or whatever the term is for the period just before a drought is called.

Bergkamp and Vieira.

The concept of world class footballers at the Arsenal is not entirely foreign.

Bergkamp was but he's the exception rather than the rule.

Both Alexis and Ozil were considered some of the finest footballers on the planet before they came to us.

Sometimes I wonder what they must think when they turn up to training and get paired with someone like Flamini :-(

We'd probably be defending better if we got someone like Pulis in, though.

Steve Williams - gay for Mark Knopfler
03-05-2015, 01:58 PM
As in totally irrelevant.

If you won the CL and did not face one of the Spanish sides or Bayern the win would not be lessened.

Ultimately the final result, win or loss, is all that defines a cup campaign.

we stole it, even though we shouldn't. Double-winning FA Cups are the sweetest, and last year was more relief than glory for me.

Steve Williams - gay for Mark Knopfler
03-05-2015, 02:04 PM
Either way I expect the world would still be spinning and we would still be comfortably better than about 75% of the PL.

Steve Williams - gay for Mark Knopfler
03-05-2015, 02:08 PM
We won the cup.

The game may not stick out in the mind as gloriously as 2002 v Chelsea for example but that is just personal memories of a great day out, the actual 'winning' of the cup itself is in no way diminishd.

Nobody every suggests the ECWC win was diminished in any way despite being outplayed for huge parts of the game.

Steve Williams - gay for Mark Knopfler
03-05-2015, 02:11 PM
A cup win is what it is, you win by beating a succession of clubs in usually one-off games. You cannot influence the clubs you are drawn against.

Had we not f**ked up royally in 2004 against Chelsea I doubt ultimate success would have been any less sweet because of the sides we faced, or didn't face.

I am quite sure it would be used by members of the Arsenal family in a way to detract from any Spurs success for example.

I'm fully aware that all clubs supporters would do it. Doesn't make it any less silly.

Certainly not embarrassing.

Some people find it easier than others to listen to the taunts and jeers of other fans who hold your team in contempt. I'm one of those that prefers my team to be respected by others. Just a preference.

Also worth pointing out that Monty would deride *any* FA Cup win on the grounds that it is an utterly meaningless tournament.

Steve Williams - gay for Mark Knopfler
03-05-2015, 02:44 PM
A person that holds us in contempt will do so irrespective of the football we play.

City for example are widely held in contempt by those who choose to do so because of their financial model, the fact they can at times play sublime football is overlooked as it is all "bought" as a result of some ill gotten gains.

A person will choose to hate us simply because they hate us, football in the end has very little to do with it.

Sir Charlie of Nicholas
03-05-2015, 02:49 PM
football. Since Arsene took over we have gained enormous amounts of respect from fans of other teams.

Ashberto
03-05-2015, 02:53 PM
in the way that hating Chelsea is so effortless. Maybe because they have played some lovely football, maybe because the are not Man Utd.

Sure, some will hate us regardless, others will base their views on how they see us as a club and a team at that time.

Steve Williams - gay for Mark Knopfler
03-05-2015, 02:53 PM
But a person that chooses to hate us "for being us" will do so irrespective of the football we play.

Similarly you can like watching football clubs play, and admire footballers from other sides (even bitter rivals) but not actually like them.

Berni

Now that they're rich, it's a thousand times worse.

City were never obnoxious (despite being Mancunians), but give it time.
