Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin suffered a broken nose during the Gunners' 2-0 win over Everton on Sunday, as confirmed by manager Arsene Wenger via the club's official website:

"Yes [he has broken his nose]. I don’t know [how long he will be out], I hope not. I don’t know whether he will need surgery or not."

The 23-year-old clashed heads with team-mate Olivier Giroud and immediately started to bleed heavily. The Guardian's Nooruddean Choudry thought the Frenchman showed clear signs of concussion as well:

The powerful midfielder returned to the pitch, however, only to take a ball to the nose in the 87th minute. His unfortunate afternoon was finally brought to an end as he was replaced by Calum Chambers.

Coquelin has emerged as Arsenal's primary ball-winner in midfield and is a pivotal member of Wenger's side. It's unclear whether or not he will require surgery and how that would impact the timetable of his return.

With the Gunners pushing for a finish in the Premier League's top four and securing a Champions League ticket for next season, fans must hope the young midfielder can return to the starting XI as quickly as possible.
