crooked autocrat before him, cannot afford to lose power because his successor will almost certainly have him arrested and imprisoned, possibly executed, so with the Rouble tumbling the time honoured 'enemy without' ruse is his only remaining option.

Flying close to our air-space is nothing to do with testing how efficiently the RAF respond. He's testing our politcial mettle and we've been found to be trembly lipped and frit.

Of course, if it were simply a reconnaissance sortie in lieu of plans to wipe Padstow and Wadebridge off the face of the earth, this is perfectly acceptable.

Several eye witness accounts, admittedly people from Cornwall, have actually said they saw the Bear Bomber flying inland. But for some reason this has been downplayed quite heavily, I'm not sure who by.

It does rather beg the question of why Davey is so scared to stand up to the Poot though.

I don't think him saying "Oi Ivan, fly over our country uninvited again and I'll give you a slap" would count as warmongering.

some Cornish blokes saying they are sure they saw it.

I imagine what they saw was a B747 on the way to the Caribbean. They're not the brightest folk, down there.

Has it not occurred to you that you wouldn't be able to see a Tu-95 at 45,000 feet?

Stop being a conspiracy loony.

They weren't flightplanned, and they weren't squawking. That's what they do. It's dangerous and it's provocative, but it's NOT an invasion of UK airspace.

Sir Charlie of Nicholas

He has made a statement.

'David Cameron said he thought the Russians were trying to make "some sort of a point" after two Russian Bear bombers were spotted off the coast of Cornwall, but that he didn't deem it necessary to dignify them with too much of a response.'

Right.

Also, has it not escaped your notice I am, if anything, even more scathing about Labor?

actually having to think.

I hold no particular candle for Cameron (other than on a personal level, knowing him to be a nice chap) and I disagree with some of what he has done; I just find kneejerk dismissal of everything a bit 5th form.

I mean, I can't be disparaging about the Tories alone, we've established that. I can't be equally sceptical of both, apparently. Surely supporting both would seem facile and logically inconsistent.

Don't get me wrong but it does basically seem like the only way you'd be happy with is that I supported the tories despite all of my beliefs and their pisspoor performances.

Sir Charlie of Nicholas

You can look at Cameron's recent reaction to Russia and consider that it's perfectly feasible that he is keeping his gob shut as the European reaction is being led by Merkel and Hollande, because that is what was agreed. Or that, with an election looming, he would rather keep a low profile publicly whilst beavering away behind the scenes. Or any other number of possible scenarios - but you're so caught up in being right on that all you can do is rant about oligarchs and make up conspiracy theories based on nothing but your need to justify having your poster of Che on the wall.

Which, if anything is truly, truly childish. Not unlike the way you literally always, without fail, drag the argument down into an ad hominem one as soon as anybody challenges you.

Anyway, it wouldn't have been visibile from the ground so of course nobody saw it.

It did not invade UK airspace. Remember that Latvian plane that did a few months ago and we said that they needed to respond now or they would be shot down - the same would go for the Russians. The same would be true if we invaded their airspace.
