Nice to see someone still has principles though. They really should've left him to go quietly, as originally intended.

Until they rise to the auspicious position of Head of Content, of course

accountable to someone who is likely to have plenty to do with the business side of things.

The point is that the Telegraph really shouldn't work like that, it's fine for the likes of your Metros, your Daily Mails and your Standards but it holds itself to higher standards. As such it's respected hugely and even read by people like me who usually couldn't disagree more with its editorial perspective.

until it has found a viable business model? What's worse, continued redundancies or an occasional dropping of your editorial principles?

Unfortunate. :hehe:

tactic so far is highly principled. All they have done, as far as I can tell, is avoid negatively reporting on their most lucrative advertisers.

They could have just sacked their entire staff, hired a bunch of hipsters, brought in a table tennis table and turned themselves into Buzzfeed

Don't get me wrong, for my sins I've always been the bloke from the ad department, rather than the actual talent, so I know the pressures more than most.

It's just sad to see it happen. Still, at least we still have The Guardian :cloud9:

Fair dos, I'm just amused that your cultural touchstone is the bloke that did Miami Vice

In fairness, everyone's cultural milestone is Miami Vice, whether they are prepared to admit it or not :-p

I mean, we're supposed to be the greedy ones, but it's your lot who are always banging on about not being able to get your hands on enough of other people's money. There's something not quite right here.

Mind you, Hollinger were hardly a paragon of virtue.

Seriously though, the Telegraph *should* stand for something. Its The Telegraph after all.

It's kind of the other side of the coin to the Guardian.

It takes a rabid interest in matters thinking folk shrug at.

If it weren't for the football, I doubt anybody would give it the time of day.

I think journos realised there was excellent money in digging dirt on and winding up the establishment, from that point.

It's like two people who are really into football but actually have very little knowledge on the subject spouting quite silly views
