I remember a som tam in the food court of the MBK shopping centre which, some hours after the dreadful burning had subsided, made my whole head go numb. My lips had blisters, like actual burns.

Oddly, it made no impression on the way out.

sitting on a park bench incapable of speech and with strings of dribble literally pouring out of our mouths for half an hour.

I once ordered lal maas in a restaurant in Delhi, only to be be told the waiter that it would be 'too spicy' for me. Waving his overtly racist comments away, I demanded he bring me the mutton toot sweet, for there is not a lal maas in all of Delhi that can bring me down.

I'm reasonably sure that chef added quite a lot of sulphuric acid :-(

that I had a wee panic attack and was sick.

I recovered and either that day, or the next, I had a Maccy's.

It tasted funny.

Nothing short of mustard gas was going to stop me finishing the kebab.

Mind you, this was 20-odd years ago, so I can't speak for the place now.
