View Full Version : Are we not going to have the traditional Valentine's Day debate, then?

No respect for time-honoured custom, you lot. Next thing you know, we won't be having the traditional Paddy's Day/St George's Day argument and then where will we be?

:-(

We've been doing this for years, man.

Actually, I do have to do Valentine's these days. I do secretly f**king massively resent it, though.

No idea what the wife's doing, to be honest :cooper:

No, but seriously, it's got to be done, hasn't it?

I joked that it was for my wife, not my girlfriend. Then she got confused and asked if i wanted help choosing something for my wife and something for my girlfriend. I wish I hadn't bothered

"What about Pizza Night?" she said.

I knew then and there she's the girl for me

bribes, and how often she feels loved by day-to-day attention, affection and kindness.

That said, I and the Ms are going out for dinner tomorrow night. I will offer to pay, but she might insist on going halves. She does earn twice as much as me, after all.

There's quite a space between Monty's "Anyone who does anything at all for Valentine's is a ****er" and Reg's "Anyone who doesn't give it the full works doesn't care".

It's about taking the time and trouble to show how much she means to you. Of course one tries to do this every day, however the significance of tomorrow night is that Valentine's is traditionally understood to be especially reserved for lovers. It's the essential pointlessness, emptiness and futility of the thing that makes it so profound, like a wedding ceremony or a football match.

After all the years, it serves as a very public demonstration that this is my bird. A new Range Rover would serve the same purpose, of course, but not tomorrow night.

We go halves on everything, overall. Sometimes one says "I'll get this one" as per the round system, but it evens out in the end.

fwiw I agree with the 50/50 policy, even if I do a majority of the picking up and dropping off business.
