Honestly, that impressive but ultimately lucky achievement has been milked more than the Titanic.

The team, however, in terms of the impact it had on their legacy, can consider themselves lucky to have achieved the statistical quirk (for that is all it was) of going the season unbeaten.

covers so many demographics its a winner imo

We were 'lucky' that our campaign wasn't hampered by injuries. We were 'lucky' that there weren't up against a better side that season, etc, etc.

Alternatively, you could argue that they weren't lucky to go the season unbeaten because that came about because of their collective efforts.

The word 'lucky' is a fairly silly one to use.

Monty91

that season, it would not in any way have devalued our title victory. Yet the legacy of the team would not have been anywhere near as powerful as it is. Instead that legacy has been artificially propped up by what I previously and reasonably described as a statistical quirk. And for that they were lucky.

He hasn't and he wouldn't feel that he had. Milestones matter.

Monty91
02-12-2015, 02:49 PM
there was no meaningful difference between the achievement of going the whole season unbeaten and of losing one game.

and the latter lost one would be laughed out of court as evidence of this superiority.

shoulder the psychological burden of that milestone (and it did become an increasing burden as the season wore on, with everyone waiting and hoping that we'd lose) and carry on not losing games. That, in itself, is an achievement.

Monty91

unbeaten thing after we'd won the league, by which point we had about four games left against a much of mugs like Leicester.

cliche that pros invariably come out with.

Either way, the fact that no-one else in modern English football history has done this thing suggests that it is an achievement, whether you think it should be seen as one or not.

how they would have been remembered if they'd lost one game (like the 91 team) is OTT?

Everybody fondly recalls Anfield before and of course the various Wenger years which followed.

1991 I think is let down by the events at Wembley that year.

that????? I know we had previous with Norwich, but still.

I think our bust up against Chelsea in the worthless cup final was worse.

Let's turn the argument on its head and ask whether anyone thinks the 91 side would be held in the same reverence if they'd gone the season unbeaten? In my opinion, no they wouldn't, since they had nowhere near the talent and were nowhere near as good to watch as the Invincible side. They also lacked the iconic players.

In other words, that Invincibles side is revered for a lot more than the achievement of going unbeaten.

I love her rape articles. They all start from the premise that, if there is a complaint of rape, there has definitely been a rape and anyone who suggests otherwise is hate speeching women. From these incredibly shaky foundations, she is then able to go on to talk the most fearful *******s, such as 'Only 2% of rapists ever go to jail' (for which read: of all the rape complaints and the number of 'rapes' that we think go unreported, only two in every 100 result in a conviction and jailtime for a rapist'.

Basically, she constructs an impregnable wall of bull**** that is unimpeachable in terms of its mad, internal logic.

Yet we ended up with 3-4 bookings and points deductions.

Of course GG used it to his advantage as seen in the end of season VHS.
