Cor, imagine Santi pressing Ozil. No wonder his eyes are bulging.

Though we did spend about six hours in the rijksmuseum last time. I don't mind admitting it got a bit 'magic eye picture' in places.

he's too cuddly.
I reckon he goes home after training to a house, probably made of gingerbread, and curls up to sleep.

If you go in spring or summer, the place is overwhelmed with people; it simply can't cope with the numebrs. In winter it's just miserable. Unless you're in the know it's easy to eat nothing but bland tourist crap, because they're catering for legions of Yanquis and Chinee. It's a great for a long weekend, and all, but a honeymoon... not so much.

Rome
Seville
Florence
Verona
Marseille
Avignon
Barcelona

All these, and many more, would be vastly preferable.

Amsterdam is basically an adult playground though. Of course, I spent a ridiculous amount of time at the flea market too, and had some decent meals, but I enjoyed the getting wrecked bit much, much more.

The rijksmuseum is up there with the National and the Prado for me, some cracking stuff there. Then again, I'm a bit of a Bruegel fan.

Avignon's a rather splendid shout, though. Thank you.

Going there helped me to stay awake having had no sleep the night before flying to Madrid. The subsequent trip to the pub full of drunken Arsenal fans was a bit of a cultural letdown after that. Match was good though :-)

Though I will basically be dragging a ginger and a child around some of the hottest parts of spain. :hehe:

If I don't go to Italy at least once a year, a little bit of my soul dies.

Avignon is rather lovely, and within striking distance of lots of beautiful countryside and great places to eat; I can advise some out of the way places if it comes to it. It's great, if packed, during the festival, even if you don't want to go to the theatre. The streets teem with performers and there's an exciting atmosphere.

This hotel is wonderful and situated ritght in the middle of the old town. http://www.la-mirande.fr/#/en/intro/

I've been to Avignon before, but didn't spend anywhere near as much time as I'd have liked there. Also, the Eurostar goes there, doesn't it, which is always handy to save on f**king about with airports. I shall look into it.

f**k that.

Flight to Montpellier and an hour's drive. Marseille's probably a bit closer but it's a f**k up of an airport.
