Not too shabby for a small club from Woolwich

I shouted at the ref, calling him a "f**king blind spurs c**t".

It's the first time she'd heard such colourful language

That horse has now bolted, though. The rest of the season is but a sad and empty wait for next January.

by my other half for not minding my language around mine :-(

Destiny.

Winning it this season would be like Liverpool, when they beat Milan. A flash in the pan, hardly worth the effort of staying up to watch.

But we are not that lucky.

Of course it's a f**king flash in the pan.

Point this out to the c**ts who have placed it on a pedestal as the singly most important thing in Association Football, ever.

There's language.

As we all know certain words are deemed to be more offensive than others to some / many.

I have pointed out to my Mrs and kids that they will become very accustomed to and familiar with certain words in normal life irrespective of us as parents refraining from swearing ever in front of them. I have also pointed out to them that just because Daddy does it does not mean they can do it. I have given them many tangible examples of this scenario outside of language – Daddy drives a car, they cannot. Daddy drinks beer, they cannot.

I then proceed with life swearing with utter abandon. Minor swear words all the same.

I still get told off all the same.

I loose the odd **** and f**k but generally I'm pretty well behaved, it's all usually in context. Anyway, given her affection for the work of the Wu-Tang clan she's pretty well versed in the bluer elements of the language.

She's allowed to watch stuff with the odd swear in it, on the basis that lots of stuff with swearing in it is good. Here's the rub though, if she swears herself she won't be able to watch/listen to any of that. It's an approach that seems to work, for now.

This was the first time she'd heard me properly disappoint Jareth though.

I doubt anybody would be making a case for going all out on that one if we had landed in it.

I’m a traditionalist J, as you know. Give me a domestic title any day of the week over the CL, give me back to back domestic titles and I will pull you off.

I would celebrate us winning it of course, probably get quite drunk in the process, would endlessly point out us being winners of it to every non-Arsenal fan I came into contact with in my normal life.

I just don’t attach any special ‘champion’ status to winners of Europe. I say this fully recognising and acknowledging the glamour and prestige awarded to the trophy, and winning it, by most others, especially players and managers.

,so long as he understands - and adheres to - the general rule that in certain situations swearing is unacceptable (i.e. in the classroom, in front of strangers, etc)

Sir Charlie of Nicholas

You can't ask a child to remember that he can call you a c**t, but not his teacher. That's simply unfair.

Surely (and I'm no expert in this field) children are like hounds and socialists, happiest when they have a clearly defined set of rules to which to abide?

There's a certain logic, and one I find it hard to disagree with, that says you're not a big club, a properly BIG CLUB, until you win the CL.

I take your point about back-to-back titles though, that would be almost as good as winning the CL.

They thrive best with clearly set boundaries, when she starts naturally pushing against those boundaries it's probably time to look at them again but until then this rule seems to work well.

So following on that simple progression of the tournament through it's various guises and you recognising it as one, I assume then you look upon Villa and Forest as winners of the Champions League?

We won the Fairs Cup for sure. We nearly won the UEFA, bloody Turks.

The big club is a misnomer, it actually means nothing.

I doubt many people would really look at Porto as a big club, possibly the biggest in Portugal but “big” on the grand European club, no. Similarly Dortmund. Marseille?

I know they are the extreme examples and in general the trophy tends to be won, or contested, by the perceived European elite clubs.

Big has so many different values or interpretations. We’re a big club, a f**king huge club in fact. Just never won the CL.

Chelsea have. Most Chelsea fans would like to argue they’re not big, nor do they have a history etc.

Classic Jorge

I think Porto are a big club and you'd certainly have to consider BvB and L'OM as big clubs too.

Of course there are anomalies but that's competitions for you, greece and Denmark won the euros FFS.

I'm a completist and it offends the OCD in me not to have this one.

A more lackadaisical and unprofessional performance from an Arsenal side it's hard to remember (and it's not like there isn't competition). We should have wiped the floor with them that night, but we clearly thought actually trying would be beneath us.

But I do recall making my weary way back to the hotel wondering just how the f**k we had not won that night.
