View Full Version : Soooo...the Greeks have voted in a bunch of communists as the answer to their addiction to living

far beyond their means as a country, retiring at about 45 and not really liking paying taxes and stuff.

Well that's bound to help, I'm sure.

They spent forward and there is always a day of reckoning. They already have better debt repayment terms than Germany as I understand so not sure what they will renegotiate exactly.

I do however recognise their right to bankrupt themselves if they so choose. In fact I envy the idea that the state can employ more than 50% of the workforce and it will all be ok.

Good luck and I honestly hope it all works out so every other country in the world can follow the Greeks course.

For instance, they they managed to use it for such noble purposes as killing Socrates and ousting their most gifted leader Pericles, thus losing the Peloponnesian War to Sparta.

In short: democracy is great, but you can't trust Greeks with it.

that exports from outside the Eurozone are going to become more expensive. That means that more Greek business will go bankrupt which will mean less jobs in the long term.

Also, Standard & Poors/Moody's will certainly slash Greece's credit rating to perhaps the worst it can get. That means that nobody is going to lend a country that can barely afford its own population already any money.

It could ultimately be kicked out of the EU if they bankrupt themselves which will certainly spell disaster for them.

But they have only themselves to blame.

country's have been trying to get their exchange rate down as it has a strong effect on inflation (too lower inflation is a bad thing), the EURO is already trading at 7 yr lows so the Greek situation has hardly changed anything (trading down as low growth and low inflation in Europe points to possible stagflation). The EU has recently strated QE to try to get inflation up.

Greeks biggest trading partners will be the rest of the EU so the CCY change makes little difference to the majority of their imports

If you need any more help understanding, please ask :-D
