The queen is dead boys and it's so lonely on a limb.

And she still isn't dead. Although she has gone a bit quiet. I suspect she may be on the way out. :-(

had people at every exit with collection boxes and the locals were all chucking in 50 and 100 kronor notes (roughly 5/10 euros), so i felt pressured to do the same so as not to look like a tight english c**t :-(

I know you think me an unthinking Royalist toady, but that man really grits my ****. Ideally, he'd drop off the perch early and then hand over to the splendidly dull and worthy Wills tout de suite.

In my opinion they should have taken the opportunity to cut him out of the succession when he married Camilla.

They looked a gift horse in the mouth and no mistake there, imo.

Last time I went it never occured to me that I would need hard cash so when the time came I had to shuffle the wicket basket to the next person while clearly not contributing.

I was seen as tightarse Daddy.

This time I raided the **** jar in advance and took 4 x 10 cent coins, to give the effect of generosity.

A republican is one who would seek to depose our anointed monarch, no? Which would make them guilty of High Treason. The word for such a person is traitor.
Hopefully you will be publicly garrotted. With a thin wire. Slowly.

Call me a traitor all you want, I'll take that over a servile, forelock tugging deferential eunuch any day.

when it comes to boosting the UK's image, attracting tourists here

I think Visit Britain get about 50m to spend, compared to the paltry 35m HRH has to get by on

All foreign tourists i see and hear are enthused by the buildings and the history. Those would remain.

Here in Norway for example, they screened the wedding live all day, the baby was front page news, same as in Sweden.

It's much more of a pull for tourist to visit where the queen lives, rather than an old castle that hasn't been used for 100 years

Same reason that people visit DC - they want to see where the prez lives

I pray for the day you traitors gain a spine between you and turn your big words to action.

Given that the armed forces swear the oath of allegiance to the crown, it would be fun seeing you put in your place. Actually, bits of you put in lots of different places, really.

That said, the Romanian army swore allegiance to Ceausescu but they opened the gates and bosh, the army lads filled their boots.

The top attractions are museums and the tower of london. Suggests a certain historical pull doesnt it?

What with him being an evil dictator, and all.

Did you visit Romania during the period in question, j? I did, and I really didn't see much of a comparison between the rule of a brutal tyrant and the liberal benevolant parliamentary democracy with a mildly frosty old lady as its nominal figurehead.

Just as hardly anyone would refuse a trip to new york.

To suggest that the royal family is somehow drawing in millions of visitors who would go elsewhere in disgust if she didnt exist is utter nonsense.

That isnt why we should keep them. We should keep them because they are pointless and powerless and that is the job specification for a head of state unless they are also head of government.

attention to British constitutional history. It matters not a jot whether the bloodline is correct, it only matters that the right chap (or chapess) is on the throne. The entire Royal line has been fudged for practical purposes for centuries now, but nobody cares as long as we have the right non-executive Chairman in place.
