therefore Wenger's decision to loan a player with a broken back was the correct one.

Mind you, I'm not entirely convinced by the Coen Brothers even on their good days.

Arteta really should be sold on.
I read this morning that Maureen was looking to offload Schirley and Sallah, which makes the point that Wenger can be accused of hanging on to some players for far too long.
If they don't look like making regular starts, then get shot and get funding in.
Just can't see any point in retaining players like Arteta, Flamini, Ramsey, Rosicky, Diaby.. They must suck up a huge slice of the wage bill

I would have said the last few weeks showed exactly why we kept Rosicky on - coming in at a difficult period and keeping us ticking over. Basically you would like us to have a strong squad but without many players. A counterpoint to the Mourinho thing is how Ferguson managed his squad in quite the opposite manner - he did all right

Also quite odd to use Arteta as an example of a player who doesn't make regular starts as he plays every game when he is fit

I assume the Ramsey thing was just :fishing:

There is actually so much wrong with that post that it is quite spectacular

but no. He's too inconsistant and a bit flighty with those casual flicks and back heels. We also have too many other options at the moment.
Sanchez, Ox and Cazorla are too solid to make way for our welsh wonder.
If we sign a long awaited defensive mid, then It's either him or Jack

Putting my dislike for him aside.

and Liverpool off Gerard, then there's not much of an argument for us to keep players like Rosicky, regardless of a few good performances in a season.

Top of the table, replaced by a better player and still in all competitions the last time I looked

Both will remain at the club all the same unless whoever loses out seriously agitates to leave.

Maureen took a tough decision and has subsequently improved his squad and the standing of the club by bringing in two top quality players.
Sure Lampard still has a lot to offer, as does Gerard but there's no room for sentiment at the top level. Not if you want to be the best.
Let's see what contributions those two are making this time next year.

but besides that Mourinho argument doesn't really wash. He has kept Terry and brought in Drogba, the latter particularly undermines your case

Comparing Gerrard to Rosicky is also a bit silly - Gerrard is an icon of the club who status is so high that merely accepting a place in the squad is beneath him. Rosicky is a very useful squad player who is still fulfilling a vital role from the bench and on his occasional starts. Liverpool would have kept Gerrard if he accepted that he would play less games - there is no argument about that

for too long, balanced with making better longer term investment in new players.
We're linked with Gundogan again I see, It seems likely that we'll acquire a long awaited defensive mid.
That clear out list I notioned at earlier, probably saves the club 300k a week in wages alone. 300k on, lets's face it, bit part players.
Ofcourse you need some back up experience, which is why Maureen identified a shortage upfront and brought in Drogba but he doesn't have a surplus in that area and has also identified players who are too much on the fringe as being expendable.
We appear to hang on to too many of those.
