as he kept standing there, card in slot, green light beeping, but not actually pushing the turnstile to go through it.

Obviously the fact that that he was a doddery old man enabled me to be so direct, as I didn't have to risk a possible smack in the mouth. I was quite surprised by my rudeness though. This must be what happens if I turn up to a match sober. No manners, it seems. :-(
