Maybe some mushroom / garlic interface thing on top of the steak?

This is most confusing when people say things like "I'll get him to call you after he's had his dinner" and it's only 12:45.
Oh, and I'm going to have a King Kebab from Bobby'z in Idle.
medium rare :-( It's a complete and utter travesty. Some places seem reluctant to accept my order of a blue steak.

You can just ask for it raw with a side of organic e-coli and some hand-reared botulism.

I suppose it can be used for texture but it generally tastes of less then f**k all.

I would only generally order steak ina restaurant in a specialist environment - Goodmans or Hawksmoor, for example, where I am confident that they know their meat and how to cook it.
Some ghastly spotty oik flipping supermarket-grade slabs of underhung flesh in the sort of provincial places you might eat is hardly going to know how to cook a steak, is he? For a start his griddle will be nowehere near hot enough to caramelise the exterior instantly.
You're just going to have to move to civilisation.
fresh picked tender purple stemmed broccoli mmmmmm

Cabbage is tricky to cook properly and kale gives me gas. Also those French beans make squeakiness on your teeth.

I repeat, it generally tastes of less then f**k all.

When I worked in the Dam I ate there every night before retiring to my hotel overlooking Vondelpark

Hawksmoor and Goodmans have made it utterly pointless ordering steak anywhere else, certainly in London anyway.
I met the executive chef of STK the other day and asked him discreetly if their steaks are up there with the aforementioned's. He gave me a look that told me everything.

Fiorentina as good as anything you'll find in London.
In the USA they like to give you grain-fed nonsense. Silly yanks.

Unfortunately, a steak cooked thus is not going to be appreciated at it's best.
