View Full Version : I think the question is not whether Abbot returns to bowling bouncers, but whether it would reflect

badly on his character if he returned to bowling bouncers without any discernible sign of reticence.

Certainly, if on his return to cricket he launched a bouncer on his first ball, it would be fair to question quite where his sympathy ends and his strength of character begins.

up the batsman's hooter (metaphorically speaking, of course). He'd get an enormous cheer for doing so. Obviously, he's going to get a bit twitchy next time he really pings someone, but he'll get over that with time.

When's the last time such a thing happened? How did the perpetrator cope?

Presumably now that you are an expert on fast bowling technique you know how this is done, but would find it tiresome to explain to thick cricket fans on a message board.

He seemed fine with it, tbh. There haven't been many examples of people dying. Charlie Griffiths ended a chap called Contractor's career, while Peter Lever nearly killed Ewen Chatfield back in the 70s. Everyone just carries on, tbh.

This lists a few notable ones

I'd say there is at least as much chance or more of getting a serious head injury fielding close in as getting hit by a bouncer and of course the batsman will always claim he wasn't looking to hit the fielder....

Of course there have been some other serious injuries like Chatfield and Simmons (as described in the BBC article Sir C posted)

That may also be what did for Sylvester Clarke, who actively liked hurting batsmen, God rest his evil soul.
