He looks like an indian lad of good stock to me, he's probably already betrothed to a gorgeous daughter of a nouveau riche Mumbai property mogul.

When the only time you were likely to be subjected to their drivel was if they cornered you in a pub somewhere? Or if you acted as a visitor in mental hospitals?

Those were good times. And we didn't even realise it.

I've seen Mary Poppins. It's utter, utter dog****. I mean, I know it's supposed to be for children, but to enjoy it you'd have to be a retarded child with no eyes or ears.

Nowadays it seems like your vox populi is very much a turn populi.

It's as if people are living in their own reality shows, armed with their own little routine about how 'maaaad' they are in the hope that somebody will feed their narcissism by pointing a camera at them.

'enthusiastically', in a manner which was more risky than normal driving, then I would, perhaps, be taking a long hard look at myself, and I would almost certainly hesitate to do it again.

You bowl it to be intimidating, but you don't bowl it to try and hurt people,' said Hoggard.

Such bowling is intimidating because it carries with it the risk of pain and injury. Yer man might be considering whether he wishes to run such a risk again.

repertoire and every batsman is expecting it at some point. The responsibility for dealing with it lies with the batsman who is out there and knows it's coming.

Equally, both bowler and batsman have a reasonable expectation that the batsman's protective equipment will preserve him from anything more than superficial damage. Now that wasn't so in this instance, but this instance is genuinely freakish.

*What does that actually mean?

threatening physical harm. I don't suggest that there is anything wrong with that, merely that it is perfectly reasnable to assume that the bowler will suffer an emotional response to the fact THAT HE HAS KILLED SOMEONE AS A RESULT OF TRYING TO SCARE HIM BY THROWING A LUMP OF ROCK HARD LEATHER AT HIS HEAD AT 300 MPH.

I shall try typing more slowly so that you can follow as I know you don't read so good.

I did think that, if natural selection doesn't do it, then actual selectors may have some responsibility here, for failing to keep Hughes out of harm's way.

But of course, that is actually what the game itself is for, isn't it http://www.awimb.com/images/smiley_icons/ohwell.gif

Sir Charlie of Nicholas
11-27-2014, 02:58 PM
Imagine if I was flying an airshow, the spar broke, and I piled into the crowd. Despite being dead, would I not feel guilt for taking out spectators? Naturally they were there voluntarily and knew the risks, as did I, but ultimately I was the one holding the stick as the aircraft impacted the crowdline at a 45 degree angle, spraying burning Avgas across a brought front, the red hot crankcase departing the airframe and taking out the St John's Ambulance tent before exploding with the force of a 50 megaton nuclear device in teh middle of the cider tent.

But we all do it all the time. Every time you get in your car you know the risk exists that you might kill someone. Doesn't stop you doing it, though. Life is full of misfortunes - you can't go around feeling guilty for everything.
